The fact someone mentioned a rebrand and we are play at Sedley RUFC has got me interested in what is most important to Oldham Rugby fans. I'm going to list to options, please pick 1 or 2. No caveats just a number please.

Option 1: Oldham RLFC merge with Latics and become Oldham Owls playing at Boundary Park but change their colours to blue and tangerine.

Option 2: Oldham RLFC move to Manor Park and merge with Oldham RUFC to become a duel code club known as Roughyeds playing in Red and White Hoops. Manor Park gets funding from Bill Quinn and the Council to turn the ground into a 4000 stadium similar to Tameside Stadium.

Myself, I'm someone who was brought up at Watersheddings. Oldham RLFC was my first love and go watch them now. I like St Helens because Tommy Martyn and Chris Joynt played for them but I'm also a Latics fan and I would pick No1 because Rugby League and Oldham matters more to me than the brand.

None of the above.

Stay at Boundary Park, no merger, no kit change. Name not concerned about

Option 2 is a none starter because you won't get planning at manor park, access is a real issue and it's on the old Pitt site

Absolutely no to any of this!

We are at Boundary Park for a minimum of 10 years and likely beyond this.
We are a partner in a multi million partnership and play at on a £1m pitch that is the envy of the sport!

I wonder at times where people get these ideas when we are so well placed.

Apologies to those that seemed upset. I was just interested in if the Chance to be a Super League team in blue was more important than keeping the heritage of the club alive even if it meant never being able to reach the top. But I hear you NONE OF THE ABOVE wins 🏆

I could have guessed that answer. I wanted to know what was more important, chance of Super League or protecting the heritage of the club. I wasn't advocating for them

For me I'd quite happily take a couple more seasons in the Championship battling at the top end, securing the base for the club regarding its foundation, pathways, junior & girls teams, increasing crowd numbers, sponsorship and so on. Mixed in their a couple more signing of the Josh Drinkwater ilk. Really get the club on a stable footing but still mixing it with the big boys with the continued support of BQ's finances in a sensible fashion.

What I'd hate for us to do is for BQ as passionate as he is (thank god we've got him at Oldham!!!!) to blow his lot on an ill fated attempt to get us into Super League when we are not ready and the foundations are not there. Leigh tried it a few years ago and were just not prepared hence for a few season's they were a yoyo club between SL and the Championship.

What has been achieved by the current ownership has been nothing short of miraculous and I cannot thank them enough for putting Oldham RL back on the map big style and the pride back in the fans. The caveat to this is I do not want us to run before we can walk. BQ is a smart businessman and has not got where he is without being savvy. I'd just hope emotion and wanting the best for Oldham does not cloud the practicalities of turning a dying Oldham RL (which it was) into a successful sustainable club ready to compete in Super League for many years to come.

I'm happy to go along for the ride as it is as the only way forward at the moment is up but lets do it in a measured and sensible way. If BQ spaffs all his money straight away is there someone else to replace him? I'm not sure there may be but i dont know. I'd hate for things to go that way so the not so slowly approach to building the club up from its foundations works for me.

Its a great time to be an Oldham fan but lets not rush things too much!!!!

It might be the only opening for a few years

Unfortunately you may well be correct, I hope not but you never know with the RFL who seem to make it up as they go along.

Someone said there are 18 teams in the NRL and Perth are applying to join.

Perth are already in, Mal Meninga will be their first coach,  they will join the comp in the 2027 season,  a year after a team from Papua New Guinea will join

That will water down the talent pool a bit. Expect there will be increased interest in UK based players.

And some in SL want to go to 14, more demand from the pool plus SL Increasing the non fed player quota to 10 .

Yeah ! Call us the OWLS. That would be a right 'Hoot' and put the Fear of God in the Warriors, Tigers, Dragons, Rhinos, Vikings etc., etc.

Like it or loath it, our name ROUGHYEDS is, to the best of my knowledge and belief, unique in the whole world.

Leave it as the Roughyeds.
