The main event is the British and Irish Lions match against the Brumbies.

I'd say that's probably fair, given that it's a UK audience.

At least the BBC recognise the reality of the situation in Oz.

From the BBC Sport RU article:

"Now it's the Brumbies' turn to have a crack at them. Given rugby league's State of Origin decider is on at the same time, the match will exist in a parallel Australian universe."

Just wondering with the varying connotations the Aussies have on the English language it could have meant anything!

They're the Canberra super rugby team, so assuming you're referring to the Barbarians with "bah bahs" then the only simularity between the two would be the sport being played

I'd imagine there'll be more people watching the rugger on telly in the UK than watching it on telly in Australia. Seems odd that they've scheduled it against State of Origin.

From what I read, the tv audience in Australia will significantly favour watching State of Origin.

So if Sky operate in Australia, I would recommend they put S o O on their main event channel.

Going off on a tangent but the mention of Canberra made me wonder. Given that Australian Capital Territories is separate to but entirely surrounded by NSW, do Canberra folk stay neutral in SOO or do they tend to support NSW?

Origin is one of the Rugby League events that's still being clung onto by Channel 9. So Foxtel (the Australian version of Sky) do their own full pre-match and post-match shows, but can't broadcast the games live. They do record their own  real-time match commentary for later broadcasts.

Origin is on exclusively FTA on channel 9. The brumbies v lions is on Stan which is owned by Channel 9 but a pay TV channel. You have to subscribe to the main Stan TV first and then pay extra to watch Stan sports. You have to have been to a rugby union playing school to afford it!
 

The Lions tests are all on channel 9 FTA (as well as Stan sports). Foxtel are not involved…but they do have exclusive rights to All NRL and AFL saturday games (until the last few rounds of the NRL season) and will be showing live NRL games at the same time as the Lions tests.

The game itself is a tight call, but today I'm going for NSW, but i can change my mind again severl times

The brumbies are named after the environmentally destructive feral horses that destroy national parks to the south of Canberra. The feral horses are called brumbies.

Every now and then the government shoots huge numbers to keep numbers down. The horses are heavily romanticised in some parts of society but most think they are a pest.

It’s a bit of a mix really. Canberra has a lot of internal migrants and they bring their allegiances and hand them down through their families.

Not sure why you think money would have any relevance. I'm sure Andy Farrell understands that sometimes major sporting events clash.
