Roughyeds Forever! Posted July 16 Author Posted July 16 I think this is ambitious and if next year may be slightly too early for us, but if likely to go back to being a closed shop again when increased to 14 teams we have to be ready and go for it. 1

The man's a class act. If hes properly in this for the long haul he's the best person we could have wished for. I'm going to upgrade my season ticket to a full one from a blue lights one to support him. 5
Tim G Posted July 16 Posted July 16 We have the best Chairman in RL. However he needs our help with just one thing, putting more bums on seats. The crowd size on Sunday looked pathetic bearing in mind our league status. Josh Drinkwater alone should fill the JR stand. Let's be blunt, there is too much lethargy in growing our fan base and we are all to blame. How many have asked their neighbours, work colleagues, relatives to a game. I hope the club marketing team are visiting schools, employers all over the borough and Ashton,Rochdale, Bury. Selling tickets at half price whilst on site visits subject to getting email contact details for future games is just one option. How about one game being free entrance. Get the ball rolling now before it's too late. 3
RoytonRoughyed83 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Was thinking last night, they might need 4 teams to join Super League. 1 to replace Salford and 1 to replace Catalans (Which I think would be idiotic to get rid off them)

If they base it on IMG points, then it's two from London, Bradford and York. We didn't even manage a B grading last year, so we are some way off at present......unless they bring back proper P&R of course.
Stevos Barber Posted July 17 Posted July 17 My big fear is that SL will expand to 14 and will become a closed shop for a period perhaps 3 or 5 years. 1

Oldham people need to get behind him and come and see what you are missing! 2
wozzeryedhead Posted July 17 Posted July 17 But when img go on about crowds London toulouse and York have less crowds than us, but then again it'll be the rl who they want go up, 1 1

ManchesterYed Posted July 17 Posted July 17 47 minutes ago, georgeb1 said: Sorry pal , Toulouse and York smash you in attendance totally agree, crowds have been really poor imo considering the money spent. My thoughts are from someone close to the community game is people of Oldham are not interested in watching washed up old SL players after one more pay day no matter where they finish in the champ, go get the best young players from SL clubs and build something. New players every week players getting released, people don't want to see it in the champ. 1

New players every week players getting released, people don't want to see it in the champ. Think you and I have very similar thoughts on this The first signings of JT and Wardle were great to show our intent and then we backed them up with plenty of good proven Championship players who were too good for League One and it showed. Individually all the Super League signings have been ok but as a whole they haven't really delivered Super League standards aside from Drinkwater who has been class. I'd much prefer less high profile signings who are younger who are going to be here for the long term. The way we are going about recruitment we are essentially going to have to buy half a new team every year and that is simply no way to build a team and a club for the long term. For the crowds I simply just don't know why they have gone backwards. The crowd on Sunday looked terrible and potentially had less than a 1000. Last season we seemed to be building links to the amateur clubs doing training sessions and Q and A nights but we've not done any of that this year. There was some really good news that we've signed some amateur Oldham lads and they were training with the squad but aside from Geener that has completely been forgotten about. 1

All the hype was for the Featherstone game and a trip to Wembley, and the Friday night Bradford game, both occasions where Oldham didn't perform particularly well. If games are going to be hyped up, the performance on the pitch must be equal or better than the promises made. Raised expectations leads to disappointment, disappointment leads to disinterest. I think the comment about SL veterans simply donning an Oldham shirt is bang on, it doesn't mean that the town will flock to Boundary Park as they are seen as journeymen whose better days are behind them, rather than "our" lads. The Oldham project has a long way to go, but it's going in the right direction. 1

I agree on the missed opportunities- especially the prospect of a Wembley final that would’ve been massive for local interest and support. i don’t however buy this idea that we’re signing a load of journeymen. The club has signed some big names but they’ve performed and moved us forward fast. At the same time we’ve developed talent in Hirst, PLT and Sambou. It’s been great to watch! if I was a kid interested in rugby then an ambitious team signing SL talent ( rumours like Lomax et al!) is far more interesting than long term prospects of growing local talent- which is important still but has to follow success 3

Oldham Valderama Posted July 17 Posted July 17 (edited) Just watched on You Tube the "Show me the money Rugby League TV podcast" entitled "Who joins Super League in 2026", if you ever feel the urge to watch something that will seriously "boil your ****" as an Oldham fan then watch this utter bile for 16 minutes of complete Yorkshire bias ****. No wonder Rugby League is in such an utter shambles when such absolute garbage is spouted by so called "insiders" within the game. Edited July 17 by Oldham Valderama

It's irrelevant, promotion to a league should be won on the field a oppose to a spreadsheet. Rugby League won grow because it will put people off and alienate fans. 1
