What chance of a hat trick of victories over Swinton this season ? I think tomorrow will be the toughest yet !

Blew it again, replica of Midlands away, 16-0 down pull back and should have won but for stupid errors.. 3 penalties conceded cost us 6 points. Same old story.

Groundhog Day….A poor first half, could / should have been further behind at HT, with a couple of straight forward kicks missed by the home team. Better second half but just too much to do in the end. Silly mistakes, frustrating penalties given away, and some dumb plays. Swinton ran and tackled hard throughout and managed to give the ball some air; I’m not taking anything away from them, but it was pretty simple rugby to be honest, and they stuck to it well. The Lions 2nd row ran us ragged at times on our RH side.

Elsey got wrapped up too often with ball in hand when he went looking for runners / trying to take the game to Swinton, a bit rudderless in patches, some poor ball from dummy half and Lions slowed the ruck to a standstill but Elsey still tried to take the game to Swinton.
Despite all of the above we had chances towards the end with quite a few attacking sets which had the Lions on the rack for a number of sets which is creditable, a good contest throughout, but more away day disappointment against the top 3/4 teams in the league

I genuinely believe on our day we are a match for the best in the league this season, no question, but too many slow starts, getting ‘out enthused’ in patches by the opposition particularly away from home has held us back from securing a solid top 4 finish (we still might make it) and like most teams adding in a fair share of injuries hasn't helped, I think we missed Nelms upfront today.
Still 2 good games to come let’s hope for 2 Wins, either way a big last home game vs Dews is guaranteed and then let’s see who we want / can retain, bring in some fresh faces and look forward to next years new league format.

Fair assessment from a swinton fan

Else is a great player

I was gutted Allan Coleman constantly left him out and he eventually left

Our second row Gav Rodden ran you ragged . He's a class above.

Last game v Dewsbury could be a nothing game if Midlands beat Dewsbury next week. They have Newcastle last game.

Of course that assuming we dont do the ‘impossible’  and win at Workington.
