Statement by York:

Statement from York RLFC Chairman, Clint Goodchild

On behalf of York RLFC, I wish to address the matter concerning Sinead Peach. Sinead expressed genuine remorse immediately for the comment and understands the serious nature of the situation. We will continue to support Sinead while she and the team prepare for the approaching playoffs.

As a Club, we have confidence the RFL tribunal process will take into account Sinead’s longstanding positive contribution to the game and her respectful reputation will be recognised. We are committed to the values of respect and integrity that underpin our sport.

Missing any aspect of "As a Club, we do not condone this ..."

Not a huge fan of that response.

I agree. It lacks an apology for me and the word sorry, or similar, should definitely be in there.

I'm sure a ban is inevitable but don't forget that the women's season is about half as long as the men's, so any ban should be proportionate.  What some people are suggesting would amount to about HALF a season.

They could go down the Ben Flower route and say that she's got a 5 month suspension which sounds serious but in reality is just the rest of the season (3 or 4 games, depending on York's SF result).

"We are committed to the values and integrity that underpin our sport except when to comes to our players."

Really feeble response.

Exactly what "support" does she need? She's an experienced international who has garnered some national negative publicity for the sport with a stupid comment inferring the referee is a cheat.

She's committed the offence.

The RFL or the tribunal that is dealing with this sanction will look at it and deliver their decision.

The chairman of this lady's club is only trying to mitigate in his way.

There should have been an immediate apology by player and club then see what sanction is imposed..

You have to be careful nowadays what words are said in a work/public environment.

Disgraceful example to give to any young female,or their parents, when it is a burgeoning sport and apparently important to those who wish to grow the sport and improve IMG points.

Unfortunately,I don't think the permitted punishment covers preventing promotion to all playing sides under the club umbrella for such conduct.

Just as well role models aren't to be expected in professional sport;or England!

What? So you want this to exclude the Knights from SL based on this?

I think it's worse than that.

Plea: We ask that the RFL consider the player's longstanding positive contribution ...

Manipulative: We have confidence the RFL will show the barest integrity in recognising the player's... <paraphrasing obviously>

Having a 2 time Grand Final winning women's side counts for nothing with regards the men's team so it would be a bit of a reach to prevent the elevation to SL based off one player saying something daft.

Well it seems York are so proud of their statement they "forgot" to publish it on any of their social media accounts.  I wonder why?

Is she moving clubs?

There was a rumor doing the rounds this past few days that Lindsay Anfield is on her way back to Cas. Given the state of Cas's womens team who are going to finish bottom of the Championship, that would have to be one of the most surprising moves in a long time. If it did happen then it is very likely she would be going there with Cas's new owner giving her money to spend and I would say theres a chance that a number of the York players would follow her as well with Peach been a prime candidate given her history at Cas.

She was just doing the equivalent of breaking every single TRL match thread's opening statement of terms.

No wonder some people are annoyed she's been punished, given some of the aspersions they cast on anyone and everyone whenever their club concedes even a minor penalty because their player's fist was brutally assaulted by an opposing player's face.

Has anyone said they are annoyed she was punished? I dont think I've read anyone say that.

There have been a few "I wouldn't be bothered by sexual innuendo in the workplace" posts, who must therefore object to Peach getting a significant punishment from the RFL snowflakes.

If he is upset by what she said then he's going to really struggle with what the crowds might say if he referees a SL game and gives a decision against the home side.

She was well out of order, as is anyone who questions the integrity of a match official, but he's going to be alright so don't stress yourself.

You seriously think this is about his personal feelings? It's nothing to do with how stuff make him feel it's about upholding the rules and integrity of the sport.

It's almost like your suggesting he only sent her off because she hurt his feelings, shall we make ref's 'man-up' and stop sending players off to prove it didn't upset them?

What a strange take on it you have, you sound like one of those parents who abuse 14 year old refs at a junior game.

Albert Baskerville has found the last page of this thread absolutely bloody hilarious.

You have to love emoji's, what did we do without them in the 1980's, how did we make our feelings known, can anyone remember?

What was the source of this rumour?

A few weeks ago, the former Salford Chief Executive Officer alleged that one of the Salford owners said that she should "sleep with someone at the RFL to smooth things over".

This weekend, a York player is alleged to have said to a referee: "Which one are you shagging?".

The reaction to the former was universal condemnation and outrage. The reaction the latter was hilarity.

Both comments are unacceptable and should be condemned. The comment not just questioning a referee's integrity. This comment was aimed at  her opponents too. And it would not have been made if women were not involved in the match. It has misogynistic undertones and the RFL should come down hard.
