Thought this was a really interesting sales tactic to get people to buy. The percentages surprise me considering the swathes of Tongan fans we normally see. This game at Suncorp should be one for the ages, cant wait:

So maybe some of our Antipodean friends (not the pretend ones please) can shed a little more light on this, but i've come to the understanding that Samoan heritage is a lot more prevalent in NSW/QLD than Tongan. There are of course plenty of Tongan heritage peoples in Australia, but more so in NZ. I think that Tonga, from a national RL team POV, stole the march on Samoa when key players defected/elected to play for them - it took a little longer for the same uprise to happen for Samoa. Now it has it's quite something - this game will be epic. I'm just sad, having no doubt drowned my sorrows from the day before, I won't be in a position to watch it live.

Yeah I think you're on the money with this. Just on an anecdotal level, I've come across far more Samoans on my travels than Tongans.

Imagine the responses if they tried that for Super League matches?

Leigh fans: "Can't.. traffic's a nightmare round there."

Leeds fans: "No way, has to be a Friday night."

Huddersfield fans: "No thanks, stadium is too big."

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Should be a big crowd. Broncos members were offered pre sale discounted tickets starting at $5 for concessions...with another $8 for ticketek.

Got my ticket the day they released to the public. This is a bucket list game for me.

Suncorp will be heaving.

Samoa is looking incredibly strong.

This tournament is why I haven't cancelled my WatchNRL subscription yet.

Should be a great tournament. Interesting that Utoikamanu has switched allegiances from Samoa to Tonga - that will add some extra spice to the forward battle.

Pity Hughes is missing( injured) from the Kiwis squad.

Made worse by Nikorima being out injured, Foran and Brown will provide a quality halves pairing though especially with the packs these blokes are behind.

We`ve seen it before, it`s not that some of these halves behind the Islander packs aren`t any good, although they`re not tier one halves usually and haven`t got that split second decision making ability of the really top tier blokes, but put them behind a pack going forward and give them a bit of time and space and they can show the talent they`ve obviously got. Lolohea I think being a classic example.

Back on topic, I`m really, really hoping that everyone puts their hands up for the WC, niggles, weddings or not. It`s a long tough season and I kind of understand where players might feel done for the year, so worst case scenario if we only see the very best on display in the WC every four years I could probably cop that. All teams at absolutely full strength would be a belter.

It's a shame NZ couldn't persuade Kaeo Weekes to pledge (I believe his mother is from NZ). I understand he has his eyes on a NSW jersey.

Pac Champs is really hard to judge who will play well and who won't!

I thought Tesi Niu might have been a chance for a red jersey. He's had a big year for Leigh.

I suppose they have Toia and Koula, but I think I prefer the Manly flyer at FB.

NRL 2025, Pacific Championships 2025, Samoa squad, Jarome Luai | NRL.com

No Blore, Leniu, Fa'alogo, Leilua, or Tyrone May in the Samoa squad.

Is Fa'alogo injured? I think he's the future for Samoa at #1. RTS is coming towards the end IMO. I suppose King-Togia is an inclusion for the future, but I would have had KR's May there as a senior head. He's led them to a Grand Final.

It looks pretty stupid on the graphic to arrange the players alphabetically by their first name. It should be by surname.

Tonga are blessed as they have Hopaete and Iongi at full back! I presume one of these will try and fill in at stand off alongside Katoa

Don’t think he’s much of an upgrade on Kini

Taylan May`s the one for me, that kid is a gun, absolute genuine strike centre, can not wait to see him play.

May and Tago in the centres, with To'o and Taulagi on the wings. Mariner may not get in the team!

Quite exciting for sure. I think Fa'alogo at FB would add excitement. He may be injured though. I'm not sure. I'm not sure I'd be picking RTS, especially if it's a two-year project to try to win the World Cup.
