Nobody knows York’s average attendances as they don’t release them (something to do with the stadium management company charging the club for the privilege of the figures being released. They’ll be known by the club and they’ll be published in the yearbook towards the end of the year. I’d estimate average attendance to be about 2500-2700.

Lots of clubs don't publicise their attendances and most come up with spurious excuses like the one above. Ground attendance at all professional sports grounds have to be accurately measured and recorded in order to retain their ground safety accreditation. In addition, I believe that the RFL make it conditional that clubs report their attendances to them after every game.

For whatever reason clubs are wary or ashamed of reporting their attendances which, in a supposedly professional sport, is inexcusable.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

nothing spurious about it, it is a fact.

So you claim. No other clubs seem to have this same problem.

The figures are available to the club and can be readily passed on to the media; they choose not to do so.

I don't imagine every other club have the same arrangement with their stadium management company.

The contract for the stadium states the club have to give the stadium management a £1 for every person in attendance. This number is the attendance announced at the game and to the media. So the loophole is if we don’t announce the attendance we don’t have to give a fee to the stadium management company. One of the reasons for this is we’d still have to pay the fee for under 16s who get in free.

I know this because I just made it up.

Wish bulls fans were as thorough measuring their own LED boards as they are with our attendances.🤔

100m full length and across entire in goal area. Pitch is 88m and the in goal would mean getting muddy on the outside track as you don't have corners. 😉

This is York v Toulouse, nothing about Bradford. For clarity, I am not a Bradford fan - far from it.

Fair enough, apologies my mistake there.

It's due to the cost charged by the SMC to supply attendance figure to the club (cannot remember of the top of my head but over course of a full season it seemed a stupid amount)

Source- I was a manager for GLL who run/oversee the contract for the entire complex and worked closely with SMC on matchdays for football and rugby. If the governing body RFL/ league need access to the figures they are allowed it for free and I think the club gets them back from the RFL but that's well beyond the point of publishing eg Next days paper.

During the match, in fact. Possibly because they have multi-millionaire owners?

How much must they charge then for something as simple as giving an attendance 🤔?

£1 per person through the gates, including the under 16s who got in free.

York to round off a near perfect and deserved season.

The odd-seeming start to the season makes more sense with hindsight

3 × L — thrashed at Oldham (newly-promoted, but finished 4th) and then at home to TO (finished 2nd) and Fax (middle-table in 2024, but finished 5th)

3 × W

L at Fev (who finished 6th)

17 × W — including both home and away v Bradford (the only other team to reach the playoffs) and away at Fax and TO

W — home SF v Fax

L — home GF v TO

Not so perfect then but still a great season.
