just saw this pop up on my LinkedIn feed.

Only seems to be for the duration of the Ashes, and doesn’t really appear to amount to much mire than Eon branding on the kit, pitch and sponsoring of the mascots.

But still good to have a recognisable name on board. Albeit for only three weeks. Sadly does sound like many of the other sponsors England has had in the past that only lasts the duration of an event.

England RL don't play often enough to justify it

First new, proper blue-chip partner for the best part of a decade

Time to get rid of this new "reimagined rugby league" growth strategy. Yet more failure! 🤣

100%, as a sport it needs a year round presence to keep sponsers like this on board.

However, this a good news story as it shows that while we are playing their is an appetite for big name business to want to be involved. Hopefully the start of more to come

This was posted yesterday on here. As I said on there I think this is a pretty good sponsor and a step up from the usual sponsors we get.

I certainly think playing big matches in big stadiums, and no doubt an Ashes against Australia too, makes a huge difference when it comes to attractiveness to companies

One of the first comments from a ‘fan’ of the sport on Facebook under the post announcing this was

’I’ll stick to Octopus’

And we wonder why the game struggles for decent sponsors.

Its a shame we can't have some Octopodes on the field, with all those arms they'd run rings round the Aussies! 🐙

and it would make holding down  after the tackle so much easier.

Some part of the company - online platform? - is called EON NEXT. Fitting as it's potentially an eon until we next see internationals here after the Ashes.

On some of the commercial  channels (in Aus?) the cricket commentators are apparently tasked with shoehorning seemingly casual references to sponsors' products into their commentary. Player slides to field a ball and 'that grass stain will require more than just laundry powder, but there's a handy spray ...' kind of stuff. Or the UK athletes who used to thank parents and coaches now thank the lottery for funding their training.

I'm wondering if we'll get lots of energy references to keep our new utility benefactors happy. Electric pace, switched on etc. If we get 'he read him like a meter' we'll know there's something in the contract.

I think it shows that internationals are our most attractive sponsorship opportunity, and that our internationals are so disorganised, that we often get these kind of announcements a few weeks ahead of a series. Last year (?) it was egg who came in, and you see on the day of the game how much space on the shirt they have bought. We had Ronseal on the shirts fo a few years, are they still involved as their logo isn't on the England RL website? (but then again neither is Eon next)

They're still on the referees jerseys

As the England team walks slowly and purposefully, Graham Lowe style,  onto the hallowed turf of Wembley, John Wilkin slips in a reference to one of the sponsors. " Eeee, on we go...."

Video ref spends 20 minutes asking himself ... 'is 'e on-side?' For everyone's benefit while replaying 5 frames in slo-mo.

TMO?

You've been watching the wrong sport.

Good call, video ref, you know the guy who spends 20 minutes muttering to himself while we watch a blur.

Commentators on channel 9 down under constantly refer to the 'Harvey Norman' replay. Its annoying but I suppose it pays the bills.

Its all about the money, and rightly so.

"Look at Stuart (Ricky) on the Just Jeans replay."

Always makes me chuckle when I rewatch the 1990 2nd test with Aussie commentary.

I wonder if Just Jeans are still trading.
