Seeing lots of positive feedback from Liverpudlians/Evertonians online. They have been very welcoming and from the looks of it they would welcome RL back to the venue and the city.

So my question is what's the plan to capitalise on the success of this event in Liverpool?

There should be development officers appointed to the city using the profits created from this event and series.

The RFL should be doing more to prioritise the development of rl in the city and even get entrepreneurs to start up a club.

A lot of the crowd were locals but I keep hearing RL would never take off in a football mad city. Bottom line is there should be a Liverpool club off the back of this.

This makes it sound like Liverpool is some far flung exotic location that's never heard of RL.

There are literally 3 teams within a 10 to 15km radius from the centre of Liverpool.

I’m not sure about starting a professional club in Liverpool but the RFL should definitely be working with Warrington, St Helens and even Widnes to get the games into schools, create more junior teams and atttact supporters to games

Is the correct answer.

Why do so many think the success of rugby league is measured in (semi)professional clubs and crowd figures?

Liverpool lions already exist.

John Moores Uni have a strong team in BUCS unsure about Liverpool Uni - sadly the original Liverpool Lions from LIHE (now Liverpool Hope Uni) are no more despite being the strongest side in the mid 90s in the city universities.

The Liverpool Lizards exist also, they play at Mossley Hill Athletic Club.

So that’s 2 clubs to start with. I think they should start by supporting both clubs with recruitment, coaching clinics and helping raise awareness and of the clubs. They could be the starting point then expand the footprint from there

Quite right, but the social divisions are very real. Unlike Manchester where the satellite towns embrace their association with the city, the towns around Liverpool actively dissociate themselves from the city.

However the city is a brilliant place and the sport certainly need to have more events there. I would even take the Grand final there and have it so that tickets are hard to come by, I.e. if your team gets there you need to be a season ticket holder to ensure tickets etc, let’s build it up so that people need to get tickets early.

Saints vs Warrington/Leigh/Wigan should be taking place in Liverpool once a year imo, especially if Magic Weekend is no more now.

I'd say the same for Wigan vs Warrington/Saints in Manchester too.

Big Games, a central focus for the RL community in the city to really build towards and utilise so that more and more kids have seen a top level RL game live.

I’d love to see this happen but which ground in Liverpool would you use for those games? If it was Liverpool or Everton the seat counters would have an aneurysm, and there’s nowhere else to play them. Maybe a double header would make it more financially feasible also.

I've often thought that rather than have magic weekend, that 3 double headers in different place might work better. I'll be honest, I'd never really considered Liverpool as one of the places to go, but having attended Everton I'd love a game to go back there. One thing though, it was carnage on the trains going over, not helped by TransPennine cancelling the 11:32 out of Manchester Victoria. I know that's not on the RFL and maybe the games you suggest may help reduce that congestion with fans coming from different directions

Professional clubs should be doing a lot of work in their towns and cities to develop the game and build awareness and I know some clubs are quite good at this.

Maybe SL commercial, the RFL and the clubs should also put on roadshow style events in city centres such as Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, York, London, Newcastle etc to build awareness of SL and RL in general.
They could take over a part of the city and put on an event with player appearances, free merchandise, stalls from local community clubs, SL club branding and various activities etc.

It would be bold and maybe a gamble but I'd love to see what a Good Friday Derby could do at Everton, if Saints decided to take the game there. I don't remember the last time a Good Friday game at either clubs stadium didn't sell out and I would be pretty confident they could get a crowd in excess of 30,000.

But they are not IN Liverpool and none of them are Liverpool clubs. And none of them are doing anything at all in Liverpool.

Liverpool needs it's own club.

To form a club you need people who want to and are capable of doing it, and who have the time and money. Clearly that isn’t the case, which is why there is only one club in the city and they play at the lowest level.

Potentially. But with no magic weekend, and looking at the Union examples, I don't think 35k plus is unreachable.

Double header also a possibility.

There has been plenty of attempts to establish RL in Liverpool. I remember watching Huyton at Alt Park. Incidentally, I was in Bolton (not far from Wigan) on Saturday but the game I went to watch was off so I decided to find a pub to watch the RL. I tried 3 pubs but they would not put it on. I had a pint in one pub and they had 2 screens, both with football on - not even local teams. I managed to get home to catch the second half.

Liverpool needs it's own club.

It had its own club but it was never well supported.

Even in the postwar boom years.

The question you need to ask is "who'll put up the money to fund it?"

In a round about way that's one of the questions I'm asking

You're looking for a brave, reckless, wealthy person.

The obvious answer is Prenton Park home of Tranmere Rovers that holds 16,587 and is a short distance from Rock Ferry station on Merseyrail. You could hold a Warrington v St Helens game there. As it probably would sell out.

Ther argument against of course is that both clubs are close to Liverpool with St Helens in the Merseyrail Network and Warrington equidistant between LIverpool and Manchester. The clubs might argue they would get the same crowd playing this game at their home grounds.

What football did they have on TV between 1430 and 1630?

A cities third team rarely works. Getting the game into schools and helping establish an amateur club in Liverpool would be more beneficial than spending millions on a club set to fail
