Should England take up the offer to play PNG in 2026 has a warm up game before the World Cup ? My understanding most PNG players will be in England so getting a team together wont be a problem so should it happen.

The NRL contingent for England (or PNG for that matter) won't travel to play the warm up and then travel back to Australia so it will not be a full strength England side. But would it give the spine some chance to work together before the competition, yes.

I would prefer to see the timings and the draw before saying yes or no.

It is a worthy option, if there is a week off to play it in. To be honest, if super league doesn't provide a week that is blank, then the England squad should get together anyway, each club can do without a few internationals for their game that week.

Id certainly be interested. I dont think PNG will be very strong though but any game is better than none. A little Tri-Nations with France would be nice to give teams a couple of games each for the World Cup.

We really need to be taking our preparation from training camps to matches more seriously over the next year to prepare for the World Cup. The Ashes should have been a huge wake up call.

Some reports i have seen talk about the game being played during a international break during the season ?

If they want to do well in the WC  then they need warm up games.

I haven't seen a confirmed calendar but last year we had one split round which could have been combined to provide an international break but this year the season is finishing a week earlier for the world cup. So unless we start earlier or have double rounds at Easter etc then I don't see where the time for the break comes from?
World cup starting 2 weeks after the Grand Final doesn't give time for a warm up fixture there either.

Depends when it is. If it is in between the end of the domestic season and the start of the world cup, then I would say there is greater value in getting the English contingent over to Australia and get the whole squad together as early as possible.

If it is mid season, then it would be of value - as would a France game.

Found this on a RL site Papua New Guinea has invited England to play a mid-season Test match as part of preparations for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.  The proposal comes at a time when England faces a light international schedule following their recent Ashes defeat, creating concern about limited high-quality warm-up fixtures ahead of the global tournament.

The RFL should try and get a few of the England NRL lads to come out in the press saying that they're being forced to choose club over country and put a bit of media pressure on the NRL.

It won't work but it wouldn't do any harm for the NRL to be knocked down a peg or two.

Do we know what a UK based PNG 17 would look like, is it a stronger option than France.

(that's not specifically for you, more a wider question)

It really shouldn't be too hard to do a SL based ENG - PNG - FRA series next summer, with a CNAS or Wales added too to ensure everyone plays each week.

England vs PNG in a modest London venue, Wimbledon strikes me as too small, so Brentford. If not then it has to be Headingley imo.

France vs England in South of France or even Paris depending how well the Catalans vs Wigan game goes.

France vs PNG in South of France.

Additionally, England vs CNAS in the North (probably Headingley), if vs Wales then play it in Wales ideally.

Would be nice to see some internationals in the warm summer sun!

Wimbledon would do. The crowd is secondary, the penis-measuring for England has to be about how good the team is, not whether Block 121 has sold out at Wembley.

That's fine, but I think we should be aiming for a better crowd than 9k tbh.

This is the whole problem. Too many rugby league fans obsess about the crowd, the optics, not the actual rugby.

I mean I think for it to continue it has to be commercially viable so yes it is important too.

OK, well, Wimbledon would be cheap.

But this is how it goes, Tommy.

We have a midseason test, the crowd is sub-optimal, so we bin it off because ‘Nobody wants to watch ‘em’. Completely missing the point.

And then we wonder why the Aussies win the Ashes 3-0 by 11 tries to 2, looking like a bunch of strangers.

Cant be at Wimbledon look at how many PNG players at Broncos.

Morea Morera, Edena Gebbie, Rodrick Tai, Robert Mathias, Nene MacDonald, Finley Glare, Lachlan Iam, Emmanuel Waine

Edwin Ipape, Jacob Alick-Wiencke, Jeremian Simbiken, Rhyse Martin, Liam Horne, Watson Boas, Dan Russell, McKenzie Yei, Jason Tali, Junior Bini Kacakia a list of PNG players in England.

Sounds like we need to get some better crowds then we won't have your problem. Probably need something with more than 9k to get that too.

9k is mega small time for the national team in the capital and would be treated as such.
