At least the only loop fixtures this year are at a neutral venue, let's not pretend everyone likes loop fixtures now because of all the nonsense that's gone on this year.

The Line about loop fixtures will get thrown out all year. Meanwhile most of us can see that having one additional fixture at magic weekend isn't the same as having 6 additional fixtures and that keeping magic weekend, which is an event and is loved by our TV broadcaster, going into the year the TV deal is renogotiated is a good thing. 

20k sold now apparently. That's phenomonal. Can't remember 20k being shifted before Christmas.

Sounds promising.  No doubt the Hill Dickinson venue is the attractor as the previous Magic event at Anfield provided one of the lowest aggregate attendances.

This isn't a loop fixture in the context of what has been complained about. Playing home and away are technically loop fixtures. This is a unique event fixture in the season.

Loop fixtures that are being complained about are repeated games against the same opposition at the same venue. THAT'S the loop fixtures people hate.

Except the stats don't really back that up - four or Leeds' five best home gates this season were against teams that we played twice at home. 

What people hate are rubbish fixtures, whether they're looped or not, but the whole "loop fixtures" retort became a fig-leaf for the coup leaders to hide behind and shut down any questioning.

To be fair, even clubs like Leeds blamed loop fixtures in their financial results. It's become a lazy scapegoat.

Surely this thread should stick to how a good comfortable stadium near a city centre like this, Newcastle and Cardiff will always attract people for the overall package?

Not sure Loop fixtures is worth debating in the context of Magic!

I agree it's a lazy scapegoat. I think Leeds' complaint was who the home loops were against (Catalan and London if I remember rightly) and with the best will in the world, those are less attractive games that will require some tactical offers to maintain the gate. 

I don't agree or have time for the "but away fans" argument, but it kind of does prove the point that loop fixtures weren't the problem, bad fixtures were the problem - and now we have more of them. 

But yes, @Gerrumonside ref, we can have a whole new thread about that....

Have you been to this ground? I think putting it in the same bracket as Cardiff and Newcastle for proximity to the city centre is... a stretch.

Of course it is, provided you're relatively fit and it helps if you have a particular penchant for dual carriageways and derelict buildings. It is not, however,  anywhere near as handy as the other two cities named.

Crazy that they keep talking about binning this event, I have been to pretty much everyone and it's an amazing weekend and continues to be popular with players and fans alike
