With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Yes. I thought we played pretty well in 2022, however some of his selections were odd even in that semi final that we lost to Samoa and he has to take a lot of responsibility.

I didn't like his approach in the Ashes at all, he looked very very dated.

I wonder if the RFL have bowed to the public on this despite what they said previously. I can't imagine Wane leaving of his own accord.

In all seriousness, I think this had to happen.

He had a home World Cup with the easiest draw possible for England and bombed it, and possibly should have been sacked after that. 

2 relatively successful tours hosting Tonga and Samoa.

The Ashes were a complete lead balloon from an England perspective. The Aussies even did community engagement better than us.

The only thing I thought that might save him would be the lack of prep any coach here would have for the WC in 2026. Perhaps the lack of prep for most teams though have swayed the RFL from this.

I think if he had been able to lead a tour in the intervening years too we may have a better opportunity to judge, however he did not. I appreciate that is a decision above the level of Shaun Wane though.

So who's next? There's no denying it's an incredibly difficult task for whoever comes in, it would've been for Wane too, without any fixtures announced leading into a World Cup down under. I fear they'll go 'safe' and have McNamara come in and do it, essentially part-time.

The recent Ashes tour was one of the biggest missed opportunities we have had internationally, the other one was the World Cup.

I absolutely loved the Ashes, but that was mostly down to how the Australians conducted themselves, which really shouldn't be the case. On the field we were an absolute flop.

 

Winston Churchills (SIC) didn't help us much.

A bit later than Matt Shaw was saying pre Christmas but I do agree with the call. We will see how we go now under a new man. It won't be easy for whoever that ends up being, with there being next to no opportunity to get their hands on the players pre World Cup. 

As for Wanes time, there were ups and downs but when you promise a lot, you need to deliver and in the biggest games, he's not been able to do that. I do wonder if his time might be looked at a bit differently in 3 or 4 years, if this next period goes badly but lets hope that isn't the case.

I agree it is the right decision.

For the World Cup mostly. The draw was designed to get England to the final without facing a tier 1 side and we didn't get there.

We were ok in the Samoa and Tonga series but lacked any kind of creativity against the Kangaroos.

A fresh start is what is needed.

Should have gone before the floodlights were turned off at Headingley

A part-time replacement may suggest Rowley, although personally I’d rather it was a full-time position (occupied by Rowls, as it happens)

Could you even see Willie Peters being involved. Treble winner, international assistant in Aus.

I'd also be looking at the English assistant coaches based down under like McDermott and Agar to be involved.

Would certainly be a good idea to have feet on the ground in both SL and the NRL

Willy Peters would be my choice. Best coach currently in SL IMO and obviously has a great depth of knowledge of the NRL and it's players.
