Mr Plow Posted February 3 Posted February 3 As it’s officially folded this year I was interested in seeing a list of winners but can’t find one anywhere. Does anyone have any info of where I could find one?

Does anyone have any info of where I could find one? I've got a list of champions and runners up from it's beginning up to about 3 years ago when I lost interest. Do you just want the premier league? If you want all the divisions it will take me a while because there were about 10 divisions in some seasons? I'll have to find them. I have them in print and electronically but I can't access some of my electronic files at the moment.
Just Browny Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) Division 1 - Fryston Division 2 - Thornhill Division 3 - Stainland https://www.pennineleague.co.uk/ Edited February 3 by Just Browny I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I think this season only Woodhouse and Fryston have been able to get a team together each week
Celtic Roosters Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I've done my bit for amateur RL over the years, helping to start new teams in Swinton and Hull and being involved as a volunteer at clubs since 1987 but I've given up on any hope of expanding the game, and I just watch the occasional game now. RL doesn't help itself. I'm a Lancashire lad but I just looked at the League tables in Yorkshire for the 1987-88 season. Kingston on Hull & Humberside League = 56 teams. Leeds & District League = 13 teams. Pennine League = 62 teams. West Yorkshire league = 57 teams. York & District League = 17 teams. Yorkshire league = 64 teams. That's 269 teams. None of those leagues exist any more. I used to get upset about it because I loved the game so much but I couldn't care less now. 1

There are a few green shoots around the country mate, but it’s very hard work and there is very little support from the RFL. 1

My guess is that no-one wants to enter it and when they did they ended up not being able to field teams. It's not just the RFL, though, or indeed BARLA, who refused to co-operate with anything and were as stubborn as a donkey with its hooves in its ears. All sports that rely on occupying a full Saturday are struggling. Except maybe football, but their main grass roots action is Sunday morning. My local golf club used to have a massive waiting list for membership. Then it was fairly easy to get in, then they were advertising, then they were almost begging, then it shut. Tennis leagues are smaller, and have drastically reduced the length of matches to make it acceptable. Something like Padel, on the other hand, is booming. You can play for an hour, any time between 7am and 10pm, and you only need 4 people, and there are apps that match you up with equal standard players. My son played the other night after his kids were in bed. I reffed for a few years in the Pennine League. Divisions 5-7. It was occasionally hairy and I visited some places in South and West Yorkshire that were like a massive set of some dystopian Ken Loach nightmare, but I also had a lot of good days helping lads get a game. I've written a poem about those days called "Another Bloody Saturday". 2 "I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. It was meant tongue in touch, mainly to acknowledge what felt like Sharlston dominance throughout the noughties - they won a lot of the cup comps as well. They were definitely our bogey team (Hunslet Old Boys/Hunslet ARLFC) over that period and always hoped they'd have found a way to make it into the NCL, as they really were that good for a fair few years. 1

Rooster knows! That's all I was trying to say, certainly since the turn of the 21st century anyway.
