Currently watching various comps taking place prior to the opening ceremony.

1. Curling. Therapeutic as usual, but could someone suggest to Cram that silence is golden.

2. Women's ice hockey.

Result: Japan 3, France 2. Bloody hell it's fast!

A reminder to the RFL. Proper prior planning prevents particularly poor performance. Try it sometime.

Looking forward to the ski cross and snowboard cross. (Haven't checked if they are in this year though). Usually a few thrills n spills and drama.

I'd assume they are part of the game, as they were a huge success in previous Winter Olympics.

The new sport for these games is Ski Mountaineering, aka "Ski-Mo".

Ice hockey is a brilliant sport and in my opinion much better in the arena than on tv. They play in short bursts and that allows for a great combination of speed with skills.

Never seen it live and it’s firmly on my to do list.

The wife and I have been watching various events in the build up to the Winter Olympics courtesy of TNT and have been thoroughly enjoying it.

We're very much looking forward to what awaits us 🙂

Got the mixed curling on and am already clearing my (crowded, obvs) schedule this evening for the final of the team figure skating.

Expert on both for the duration.

I'm on Discovery+ Entertainment. £4 a month, will cancel when Olympics over.

Just catching up on the men's downhill. Tough course, beautiful conditions and drone footage enhances this sort of event immensely.

I've kept away from that. As a sport, it's been going downhill rapidly.

Lindsay Vonn airlifted from the women's downhill and pundits agree it looks pretty bad, given that she was already skiing hurt.

More people need to have the courage to say that it was monumentally stupid and a terrible example for her to be at the start line.

The BBC commentator, don't now his name but he's a former skier, said racing with a torn ACL can be done, said that he did it himself in 1985, then added that he did also crashed.

Graham Bell. He said it on the radio later as well.

I am very far from convinced.

Yes, agree the drone perspectives add a lot. I also like the events where they've been able to put competitors racing side by side rather than just against the clock - slalom snowboard ones were partincularly close.

Some of Graham Bell's fellow professionals were of the opinion that he was a bit daft. He used to do the camera runs for Ski Sunday without poles (so he could control the camera) and went as hard as he could instead of taking it easy.

Quite a few more talented racers said they thought he was completely mad and they would never do that.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Have never been. I know why I don't like ice hockey (because I never played it and only went ice skating once in my life), but moving that aside, I can't get over how difficult it is to track the puck. Even in person, I feel like it would be too small and moves too fast to keep on top of.

I've asked this question before somewhere and people knowledgeable about the sport say that often you're not even necessarily looking at the puck but at the way in which the players move.

The Slav’s have just thrown two into the net against their highly… very highly fancied opponents.

3:1 Slovakia.

not many teams can come back from here. A draw is the best Suomi can get I reckon. 8:50 to play

If you were to try and translate into RL what tonight’s Suomi v Slovakia match was, I can probably best describe it as France beating Tonga.

What Ice Hockey and Soccer and even RU rules allow is the chance for weaker nations to compete and even cause an upset. Far more so than RL.

Make of that what you will.
