🙏 Please let it be Wood, please let it be Wood 🙏

Don't be daft. I'm sure the chairs of the RFL, RFL Commercial and Super League Europe will put their heads together and find a suitable appointee, preferably someone who did Nigel a favour in the late 1990s.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Wouldn't it be lovely if they announced a summer tri-series b/w ENG, FRA, PNG at the same time.

I mean we know for definite that this isn't happening.

Although I'm sure Peters would do a fine job, I'd seriously advise him not to take it, if offered. It'd kill his career.

Q: When will we know that 14 clubs is working for Super League?

A. Before we can answer that, we need to know what the move was meant to achieve. Seemingly, no one knows,

Not if he has his NRL contract already signed, as reported. Plus he doesn't really have anything to lose with England, there's no expectation at all.

How is there no expectation? We're expected to beat anyone who isn't Australia, and even with losing to Australia Wane took a hell of a lot of flak despite their obvious advantages.

England have made it to one World cup final this century, they haven't beaten New Zealand in a world cup since the 1970s, I don't think we are expected to win any knockout game at this tournament.

Wane did a lot more to be criticised for than just lose the Ashes, and he did it with multiple years of preparation, not weeks/months. Our new coach will have no warm up games and no camps until the world cup, hardly a setup for any expectations of success.

I'm not saying we will or won't do well, but if we lost to Samoa/Tonga/PNG, all of which are strong teams, then there would definitely be calls for the coach's head. I'm not hopeful of us winning the world cup but there's definitely a level of expectation.

Are we really expected to beat New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga? People within the game will also appreciate how little preparation time the new England coach will get for the tournament.

Unless Nigel Wood gets the gig as Team Manager, I expect Peters will be appointed for the three months leading up to and including the WC, and there'll be a short sharp intense training sessions a month or two before the WC .

I think the average man on the street would expect us to and criticise the coach if we didn't, yes. Look at the reaction when we beat Samoa and Tonga in test series over here. It barely registered as it was expected. It's harsh but people take it as read that we should beat Samoa and Tonga (I'll concede NZ do get a bit more respect).

Playing devil's advocate, any maybe I'm about to show myself up here as I don't know the answer, do we know roughly how many full time professional players are eligible for England, NZ, Samoa and Tonga? I'd say that's the biggest overall factor really. Pick the team an hour before KO and turn up with no coach and they would still beat a well prepared France or Wales.

It will be a volunteer on expenses and after a worldwide search will be someone already “working” at the RFL
