LET'S HAVE A LOOK BACK IN HISTORY
Back at the end of the 1998 NRL Season the Cashed up St George Dragons decided to enter into a merger with a broke rundown Illawarra Steelers that were financially on there knees with a junior player talent that everybody else in the NRL would of gave there eye teeth to have. Fast forward to 2025 The history books say there was a Minor Premiership in 2009 another Minor Premiership and a Premiership in 2010 under the then best coach in the game Wayne Bennett. Since then in 2011 they led the comp for most of the year where they were expected to be Minor Premiership again still under Wayne Bennett as coach but finished in 5th place on the table after late season burnout. The only other times they featured in finals football was 2015, 2017 & 2018 under coach Paul McGregor Since then every season has come up duck eggs. Now let's remember back why St George Dragons came calling at the Illawarra Steelers door. It was to get their nursery of a player bank back that had served them well since 1921. Shane Flanagan needs to wake up and start using some of the junior players in the hope of building for next year so the Dragons can challenge for a Premiership in 2027. This Has been team he has assembled for this season is a total dud.
