2027 Transfers

Find it ridiculous I've had to start this topic so early in the 2026 season, but looks like we have our first 2027 signing.

Matthew Shaw reporting we've signed Cole Geyer from Oldham for next year.

Reporting that he's joining 'the York Knights set up' so unsure if he'll be a player for the Knights or Thunder (probably both as we've already seen this year)

Plays hooker and has already had a great start to the season at Oldham bagging a few tries, already seen a few Oldham fans annoyed that he's leaving.

Shaw reports that both McShane and Pembo are off contract next year and with Balmforth only being a season long loan, our 9's may have a new look next year.

Geyer is absolute class rips championship sides apart from dummy half.Also had the most dummy half runs by 24 in the Queensland cup last year.Ive heard about Balmforth staying permanently however I don’t know if the new coaching shake up at FC will have a say in that now

In my opinion, announcing signings so early in the season can have an unsettling effect on some players. I don't think we've seen the best of Balmforth, but I'd be doing everything we can to keep hold of Pembo. He is 23 on Friday, so an ideal age to nurture into a Super League player.

Agreed to some extent. I find it absurd that a we know a player is leaving next season before a balls even been kicked THIS season (Cam Smith going to Wakefield next year etc....)

I know it would never happen, but a free agency period at the end of the season similar to the NFL would be the way forward, but I'm aware that also has some negatives.

I like that signing, article says other SL clubs watching him, we know we definitely need at least 1 hooker so clints pulled the trigger and got his guy before a bidding war even started.

It'll be interesting to see if the quota loophole is closed in 2027, or if other clubs just start utilising it instead.

The cynic in me says it'll be closed. 

Anyone know anything about the rumour we've been warned by the RFL? Or is it just one guy "in the know"?

I've had a look at players coming off contract for next season and tried to do a realistic but best case scenario off season recruiting drive. Trying to prioritize adding English depth. First two going big for but we're trying to build a silverware squad.

Max jowitt- apparently wakey open to offers, can kick and adds options for Toa to move to centre. Not often an English lad that quality becomes available.

Chanel Harris-Tavita- slightly out of favour now tannah boyd is having a worldie season with Metcalf and out of contract at the Wahs. Big hitting 6 if Ata remains out of sorts the rest of the year.

Mid 20s lads from wakey days but have SL experience now.- Cam Scott, Sam eseh, Lewis Murphy.

Dressing room experience- Joe philbin, Brad fash, Joe shorrocks (unlikely but worth a phonecall we were in for him last year)

Jowitt, Nofa, Wood, Toa, Galeano, Harris-Tavita, Roberts, Va'a, Geyer, Vaughan, Field, Philbin, Shorrocks.

Gonna be a very difficult recruitment drive next year the English player market off contract is very slim pickings and we’re gonna be competing with London/bradford/leigh who are gonna be having big recruitment cycles Need to be using our quota spots very wisely they need to be our best players like Toa,nof Vaughan Va’a all are Looking at the outs if we’re been serious and not sentimental we need to be shipping off the players who aren’t SL quality that’s the likes of 

Dee,Dagger,Buchanan,Nikau and Sangare(Unless he improves drastically)

Retirements you’re probably looking at

Think its poor to be talking about "shipping people out" when we are 7 games in, some have underperformed yes. whatever you think about Jesse he deserves better than that, he's been brilliant for York, would imagine he'd be hurt to be reading that. Have some respect.

totally agree, one thing you can't criticise about Jesse is his commitment to York, he always give 100% and is solid , that is why he is acting captain whilst Liam is unavailable. Personally I think he has stepped up to another level this season and certainly doesn't look out of place in Super League.

Yeah perhaps a poor choice of wording obviously not how I meant it.

Never questioned his commitment he’s been sensational since joining York it’s just an opinion but I think he’s been a shadow of himself this year especially defensively dropping off tackles not finishing them.The stats show that our most tackles made to missed tackles% in the forwards this year is Jesse and ball in hand I think he’s been quite sloppy aswell so from what I’ve seen this year I personally don’t think he’s up to SL standard hoping he can prove me wrong in upcoming games.

sangare has only once managed double figures for carries where as vaughan has only once not had double figure carries in a match for us

yeah id guess so. sadly the stats dont say how long each has played. if i were doin it id divide all stats by minutes played. points / min yards/min tackles/min now that would be more fun

Judging by your comments on the partnership with Thunder you are not a fan ,  given the number of injuries to the Knights it is a real boost to be able to loan players to fill the gaps in the matchday squad.

It’s not that I’m not a fan of I just want people to come clean and say it’s not a partnership and it’s 2 clubs run by and for the benefit of York. I actually think it’s quite a good idea

Sangare doesn't play to his weight at all. He doesn't drive the ball in with any pace. He looks like he should be good but just isn't.
