Week loans.

The RFL is overseeing a farce. Hunslet will play 5 loans this weekend, 4 from Leeds. What is the point of trying to nurture local talent and stick with a stable squad for a season when other teams just have almost a third of the team not their players. It just favours clubs like hunslet who are next to super league clubs and negatively impacts clubs like ours who can’t access players partly because of the geography. No competition integrity whatsoever.

Whilst we may be at a disadvantage, I’d far sooner try to nurture local talent than bring in 5 loanees every week. A look at Hunslet’s website shows 21 squad members. Not great depth for a season so they obviously planned on using the loan system. It certainly doesn’t do anything to enhance the integrity of the competition but that is their choice and probably is just an indication of where Rugby League is at this level. Injuries happen and no doubt every club may have to utilise the system at some point but I far prefer the way we have put a squad together and are utilising those players even if they are lacking the experience at this level.

I absolutely agree but when you see the comments after a defeat and it must be souls destroying for the club

Loans should be a minimum of a month, that would concentrate minds and smooth out the inequalities each week

Haven bringing 3 loans in this week. They’ve gone quiet on the 95% local boast

We had no choice we started with about 25, 4 retired after season had started, now we have about 6 or 7 injured some long term its hard to bring in permanant players at this stage of season

I think the original post on this summed it up, the RFL overseeing this - although it is also happening in Super League. 

Should be a rule on amount of players you can use in a season and how many loans you can bring in, could teams bring a new 5 players in each week?

Just seems to enhance the 'feeder club' narrative, which will IMO completely ruin the integrity of the competition.

Could you imagine in football where say Mo Salah has not had a good few weeks, and is sent to another rival on a week loan....its unthinkable

Can you imagine football having no relegation or promotion, no glory and no jeopardy, fans would lose interest very quickly and crowds would fall off a cliff. The RU have shot themselves in the foot by making the PL a closed shop, recent games have seen those teams with no hope of reaching the playoffs and with no threat of relegation getting hammered every week in front of poor crowds. I wanted the 2 divisions and appreciate the better quality opposition we have, it just needs to be a level playing field with home and away fixtures against all teams and control over loan players. Not sure how they achieve that, but the rate of teams dropping out it might be sooner than later. UTT
