A Strong Win Over Goole – Plenty of Grit and Quality on Show

Really enjoyable performance from the Hornets today, it took us a little while to work our way into Goole’s half, but once we settled and cut out the errors the momentum started to shift.

Goole turned up with a big side (physically) despite having a few injuries, and they had their moments — especially in that first half where they enjoyed more territory. But just like the Swinton game at the start of the season, our defence stood up brilliantly. We absorbed a lot, bashed them about a bit, and refused to let them break us down and managed to nick a try.

Second half, we really grew into it.
Hornets looked the better team, played with more shape, and the long‑range tries were absolute class. Goole didn’t go away easily and made us work for everything, but we kept turning the screw until the game was ours.

Considering we had a few missing, that’s a very solid performance.
Good resilience, good attitude, and some real flashes of quality. Credit to Goole as well — they brought a decent following but on the day we had an answer to anything they thew at us. MOM went to Junior, but it could have been anybody from 3 or 4, Nixon (again), Paga, Barrett and a good spell of the bench from Jordan and Hatton.

A home semi would be magic, or anything but London away

What happened with the conversions? hornets twitter, usually so good, had Flanagan missing the first but getting the second then stopped posting. Hoping whoever does this is OK.

BBC and RFL has Hatton getting two conversions. Flanagan none.

Can anyone clarify who took the kicks and who scored?

A belting performance. Strong, Physical and  enterprising Rugby. Some speed on show as well.

The highlight for me was the patience the lads showed. ( Even when I was thinking that they could open up and put more points on the board  / The boss obviously knows better !) The only downside was the first quarter when mistakes were prevalent and perhaps a better team would have punished us .

I think it was Jack Hansen how converted two tries.

The match report shows Flanagan with 2 conversions. I'm fairly sure that he converted his own try at least.

It was a good win.  We were a bit error strewn in attack in the first quarter but countered that will great defense.  Everything started to come together when our bench came on.  At 10-0 they brought Liam Watts back on to rescue their cause but we scored another two tries during that period and he was back off again.

I was a bit disappointed with the ref's control of the ruck. I don't think he gave any 6 agains in the game and there were numerous times when Goole weren't square at the PTB or they had a hand on the ball slowing the PTB down. All deserving situations but no 6 agains were given.

Yes just red the rochdale match report which says Flanagan converted two tries. Must get my glasses changed

Bizarrely, the Twitter account just stopped working about ten minutes in to the second half which was obviously far from ideal! We tried it on two laptops and three phones and every time we tried to send a tweet, an error message came up! Facebook and Instagram worked as normal but we had absolutely no idea what had gone on with the Twitter, which was very frustrating as it's obviously our main channel for stuff like this

Well glad it was technical and not human. I really like the work you do to keep us informed.

Out of interest do you concur with others the Flanagan took all the conversions? The reason I ask is that I contribute statistics for Hornets games to a website so need to verify before submitting. For well known reasons I will never take whats on the BBC as truth!

Apologies I was basking in the celebration of a couple of the tries, but Hansen did take a couple of conversations…….however I can’t for the life of me remember if he kicked them…..too busy cheering
