Just thought I'd look back at Town's Superleague days - I like a good dose of nostalgia. As most fans know Town made it to join up with another eleven clubs to kick off the top league.

However the optimists among us were disappointed with Town finding it hard work, winning two (Paris (h) and Oldham(a), drawing one Halifax(h)) and therefore relegated.

So on this day 18/5/96 Town faced Wigan at Derwent Park in a game covered by Sky TV. A quite healthy crowd of 3176 saw the visitors take the spoils at 16-64...I still recall Town playing better than that scoreline would indicate.

Match details:  Town line-up = Campbell, Wallace, Allen, Fraisse, L.Smith, Kitchin, Marwood, C.Armstrong, Bethwaite, Phillips, Palmada, Holgate, Nairn. Subs = Burns, Carter, Penrice, Filipo.   Town scorers = tries; Allen, Smith, Holgate. goals; Marwood 2.

Of the twelve clubs in Superleague 1 there are 6 who no longer play in that division nowadays... i.e. Town, Halifax, London, Oldham, Sheffield and Paris. With the latter disappearing from rugby league life a long time ago.
