Terrible news, and totally out of the blue. A nice man, and a proper Rugby League man. Great memories of his time at Hull FC.

RIP John.

Devastating news. An RL man through and through and always seemed a top bloke who would chat to anyone about RL.

Took my club from it's lowest point and we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for him.

Thank you John.

True scholar of the game, and someone who was more than happy to stand and talk about it with anyone.

RIP sir. 😞

A real shock reading that on the back of him working on the game Saturday. Such sad news. He always seemed a really nice bloke.

RIP

This is really sad news. When I was in my teenage years I was good friends with his daughter Alana. He was always kind and friendly and happy to talk RL right down to grassroots level, even though he was head coach at Wakey at the time. A true RL man til the end. RIP sir.

Very sad news. Epitomised all of the best qualities of our game - honesty, passion, gentlemanly conduct, and plenty of humour.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Hard to take in,he was a proper Rugby League man.Player ,coach, commentator and almost anything in RL would get a response from John. Not one to sit on the fence.Condolences to family and friends.R.I.P.

As a Sheffield Eagles fan there's obviously one thing that makes John a legend of the game for us. But his mark on the sport goes way beyond Wembley 1998.

RIP John, you'll be missed by the whole game.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

So shocked and saddened to hear this. You will certainly be missed John R.I.P

he waspart of the furniture at Trinity and I loved to listen to him in hospitality on games days.

So sad and so unexpected

Well that came out of nowhere.  RIP John.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Absolutely dreadful news, and hard to believe. RIP John, a wonderful servant to our sport.

And when they found our shadows

Grouped around the TV sets

They ran down every lead

They repeated every test

They checked out all the data on their lists

And then the alien anthropologists

Admitted they were still perplexed

But on eliminating every other reason

For our sad demise

They logged the only explanation left

This species has amused itself to death

No tears to cry no feelings left

This species has amused itself to death

Wow. I'm genuinely upset by this.

Truly saddening news.

What a loss, and not just to the game; a gentleman.
