Winter hung on for a long time over here this year, it’s only now getting up regularly over 20C, then within the space of three days it’ll be 35-38C for the summer. Making the most of it for now.

This time last year was at the Jazz festival downtown and it was 38C in the shade.

The emergency services are currently searching a reservoir local to me for a 15 year old boy who got into difficulties while swimming. 

I will point out as well that it is actually illegal to swim in many lakes and waterways in England because most are on private land.

The hottest June day on record in this country was recorded today, with the mercury hitting 36.1C in Gosport. This has broken the record set in 1976 of 35.6C.

It is even being predicted that this record could be broken again on Thursday.

A number of hospitals in the South of England have declared emergencies due to the massive increase in patients being brought in with heatstroke. 

Temperature records have also been smashed in Spain and France, with it reaching over 41C in Paris, and 44C in Bordeaux. 

The last 11 years in the UK have been the top 11 hottest years on average ever recorded here. 

The hottest temperature recorded in the UK is 40.3C, recorded in 2022 in Coningsby, Lincolnshire. Seen as it is only June and we are seeing mid to high 30s, there is a strong possibility this could be broken once in the height of summer. 

It should be pointed out that the May temperature record was also broken with 2 consecutive months being unprecedented.

The Telegraph (and I'm sure the other backward-looking gutter press will have pitched in too) are invoking the happy days of 1976 when there wasn't any "woke" and people kept calm and carried on and it was all great fun.

Which is mendacious tripe. It was a significant national crisis and caused a huge spike in deaths, as well as massive crop failures.

Daft to make that comparison isn't it?

Firstly, the population of the country in 1976 was 56million as opposed to 70million now so there were far less people to stretch the country's resources during the crisis. 

In the modern day, there are approx. 28million vehicles on the road as opposed to 14million in the mid-70s, plus the massive, massive increase in energy usage, all of which contributes to a much hotter everyday environment around us. 

Cities will be much hotter environments now with how much more densely built up they are, and again with the massive increase in utilities, tech services and traffic congestion. 

Air temperature can't be the only factor taken into account with a comparison like this. The on-the-ground, working temperature, so to speak, will be much worse now than it was 50 years ago.

All reasonable tips however it’s overlooked wearing a moist T-shirt/towel/tea towel and sitting in near a fan. It works a treat.

The June temperature record has been broken for a second day in a row, with a provisional temperature of 36.4C recorded in Somerset. 

A number of NHS trusts have declared critical incidents.

On the continent, France have raised their health alert to its highest level with numerous deaths across the country being linked with the heat, including a large number of cardiac arrests amongst young people. Another young child has also been found dead in a car in Paris. 3 nuclear plants have also been taken offline as a result of the heat in France.

In Spain, a record temperature of 45.1C was recorded in the town of Andujar. Spanish health authorities have counted 213 deaths that could be linked to the heat, including 95 yesterday alone.

In Germany, the overnight temperature in the town of Bad Bergzabarn did not drop below 26.2C, overnight!!

Luxembourg has also recorded its record June temperature of 38.3C.

Over the weekend, temperatures in Prague and Vienna are expected to reach close to 40C, and Dutch authorities are saying potentially 39C.

Today I have done 8 hours work (same friday). Mainly in Hull , one job near the coast .

Outside cutting grass , hedge trimming and strimming .

Hard work . Hot , sweaty . Hat , sunnies , sun cream , water ........Needed

Last job of the day was a lot cooler due to the coastal sea fret making its way inland .

Temp in Hull was 22 ish 16 ish near coast .

And it isn't because its one of those light reds that can be served chilled; it's to stop it heading into mulled wine territory after sitting in the rack for the last few days.

Amazing amount of rain and lightning flashes every few seconds as I set off from Wensleydale a couple of hours ago. Couple of trees down on the road. And back to the sun within 20 minutes - it's 10 degrees C warmer here in Widnes.

The record June temperature has been broken for a 3rd day in a row, with a temperature of 37.3C recorded in Suffolk.

For the first time in history, the June temperature in Germany has passed 40C, with five weather stations registering this, including the record of 40.9C in Saarbrucken. 

Public alcohol consumption and sales have been banned in Paris in a bid to ease pressure on hospitals in the region.
