Irvin Saxton RIP

I have just heard that Irvin Saxton has sadly passed away. A great servant of Featherstone Rovers and the Featherstone Community. RIP Irvin.

Sad news. He was a great historian and chronicler of Featherstone Rovers, of rugby league in general as the founder of the Record Keepers Club, and of the town of Featherstone.

He will be sorely missed, and leaves behind an enormous amount of research for future generations to enjoy.

Yes very sad news indeed, Irvin was a great contributor to my Featherstone Bygone Days Facebook page. He will be missed.

A regular contributor to Fev programmes for many years and also did much to promote our unique Club.

He helped me lots with stats when I was involved compiling the Workington programme.....RIP Irvin.

A lovely tribute (via the Rugby League Record Keepers' Club Facebook page) from Mike Latham, the widely-respected ex-chairman of Leigh.

I attended the funeral service for the original RLRKC founder Irvin Saxton at Pontefract Crematorium today. It was a lovely, non religious service. Irvin’s passion for Featherstone Rovers and his immense work and research for the record keepers formed part of the tribute alongside his many other interests, music, local history and coal mining history particularly ventilation. I made myself known to the family and passed on our sincere condolences. Irvin was 94 and had written much of the account of his rich and varied life. I have written a tribute to Irvin for the August edition of Forty20 magazine
