Good to see that ahead of the start of the new NRLW season, all of the 3 stalwart Brits, Hollie-Mae Dodd, Fran Goldthorp and Georgia Roche feature in the team lists for Round 1 (Dodd as an interchange). Interesting that Goldthorp looks to be starting at Centre rather than the wing for NQ in Round 1 - and that Roche will be partnering the ex NQ star Kirra Dibb back in the halves for the Knights.

(Not a Brit in the NRLW, but also quite interesting to see how, after leaving Wigan, PNG's Emily Vievers goes for NQ, having been named on the interchange bench for Round 1)

The ruling changes ahead of the RLWC, mean there will probably be lots of additional Aussie media chat about England and heritage players this season...20+ apparently?

Without knowing an individual players motivation for turning out for England, my default position is probably one of scepticism, but I did just read an interesting article about West Tigers Full Back, Caitlin Turnbull and her family connections in the North East.

Is there any other particular players I should be looking out for?

(I confess, I don’t read an awful lot of Australian and NRL media output so some names may be new to me)

Regardless of my feelings on the new qualification rules, this will certainly give an additional dimension to some NRLW games in 2026.

Looking forward to the season in any case - hope Sky continue to broadcast plenty of the games.

A thread to follow the Brits in the NRLW this year.

Some interesting news in week 1 team lists.

Georgia Roche gets the #7 jersey for the Knights after the exit of Jesse Southwell to the Broncos. She is joined at #6 by new recruits Kirra Dibb so will be interesting to see who guides the team around the park.

Fran Goldthorp moves in field to the centre for the Cowboys after being a regular winger. Hopefully she gets more attacking ball.

Finally Hollie-May Dodd starts the season off the interchange bench for the Raiders.

Not NRLW but Izzy Northrop scored her first try for Norths Devils and has been amongst their best this season.

I thought Georgia Roche did pretty well in the Knights first up win, involved in both attack and defence... she is a particularly strong defender for a half. Just 10 in the bin to spoil the performance. 

Of course the Aussie commentators were all over her halves partner, it was embarrassing at times.

Just caught up with the Broncos Cowboys game.

Fran Goldthorp was one of the Cowboys best in a heavy defeat, the top metre maker and joint top tackle busts. Not many attacking chances but hardly surprising given the scoreline. 

The other Cowboy who impressed was Emma Manzelmann, she is an outstanding 9.

Goldthorp in a side which was thrashed was really good, she looked sharp and showed some nice footwork and even beat Julia Robinson on a couple of occasions.

Yes, difficult day for the Cowboys against the completely dominant Broncos team but Goldthorp was one of the few that looked pretty good. Started at Centre but looked to be back out on the Wing later on.

Didnt watch all of the Dragons Raiders game - Dodd wasnt given that many minutes coming off the bench. Looked ok though with a few strong carries that I did see. Hopefully she did enough to get a start in the next round.

Fran Goldthorp stays in the centre for the Cowboys, Dodd stays on the interchange bench for the Raiders.

Georgia Roche misses the round with a 1 match ban for her contact with the kicker last week.

One in, one out for the Brits in the NRLW.

Georgia Roche comes straight back in at #7 for the Knights after a week's suspension

Fran Goldthorp named on the wing rather than centre (but she has had plenty of game time on the wing in the first 3 rounds)

Hollie-Mae Dodd misses the Raiders game with concussion.

Of the three, Goldthorp has probably been the most impressive so far and is getting a lot of praise in commentary.

She was very good. A run and pass threat which makes her very effective.

After a week off with concussion, Hollie-May Dodd hasn't managed to get back into the Raiders 17 and named in the reserves. 

I guess the coach wants to keep a winning team intact, can't blame them.

Goldthorp and Roache start again.

Team news for Round 5 (Magic Round)

Hollie-Mae Dodd named in the run on side for the Raiders this week.

The Raiders are playing the Cowboys and Francesca Goldthorp has been named at full back after alternating between wing and centre for the struggling side - Goldthorp has easily been one of their best though.

Georgia Roche again at #7 for the Knights. She is putting together an excellent season and just the one match ban blotting it. I was looking at the Knights forums and they were full of praise for her as well.

I thought Dodd and Goldthorp were both pretty good this morning. Each played the full 70 and were heavily involved.

Goldthorp in particular received plenty of praise from commentary on her positioning in defence and safe hands.

Another very good game from Roche in the Knights win this morning, less running but a very good passing game and an excellent 40 / 30 kick.

Im not sure she even realises how great she could be.

The great halves have that killer instinct which at this stage Georgia doesn’t have.

I still think she is potentially the best number 7 in the NRLW.

I understand what you are saying but it is a chicken and egg situation. 

She is clearly playing to very specific instructions, manage the left side attack, even if it is a very short side, let Kirra Dibb do the majority of the kicking and play dummy half for the first two or three plays in a set.

She does this well and I guess it constraints her a little, the same as the last few years when it was Jesse Southwell who was given the reigns.

The argument is she should demand more ball, and stamp her authority more, I get that, but players need to also follow the game plan as laid out.

Just finished catching up wiht the latest round of NRLW matches.

Feels a bit same again but form from previous weeks continued.

Goldthorp once again among the Cowboys best in a struggling side with just one win on the board, but she is defensively solid, particularly under the high ball and always a dangerous run threat. I thought her passing game improved this week as well now she is settled into the #1 position (let's see if she stays there as coaches like to mix up losing sides).

Dodd came off the bench for the Raiders to play in the middle - again a strong contribution with 119 run metres in just 36 minutes.

Roche was a bit quiter this week I thought but still solid in a beaten Knights side. 

All three Brits in the NRLW still going well though.

Wonder how many of our girls are good enough to go down under and make it in NRLW? 
Few of the Wigan girls but can’t think of many more?
