Stevos Barber Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Obviously London are nailed on so who will be runners up? Looking at the fixtures Newcastle could win all of their games which would give them 40 points. I seriously believe that we could win all of ours (including London). Let us think the worst that we lose to London but win the rest that gives us 42 points and be runners up. I watched the Championship Raw podcast the other day and they speculated the SuperLeague becomes a 14 team competition. I think it is purely speculation but, thinking of Magic Weekend an odd number of teams doesn't work. So where are we? London top and, no doubt, with an IMG score guaranteed to put them in SL. Relegation? Huddersfield birthplace of the game? The talk of IMG gradings has practically disappeared after last season but let's just assume an increase to 14 teams. If it is on IMG where are teams? If not on IMG then who goes up with London? Championship Grand Final winners or runners up? Or based on league position? Go back to the points projection do you think we would be wise to go into SL? If so, do we spend money we don't really have to improve the team? Or go with what we have and be, probably over the season, be uncompetitive? Would the increase in away support at BP compensate for home fans getting fed up of being thumped every week. As I say this is all based on speculation on a podcast but it did make me think 2

I think it will be either york, toulouse or Huddersfield but not sure which and no idea what the criteria will be for deciding Edited July 9 by redigster

Possibly not, Huddersfield could be saved by an LED advertisement hoarding. 4 With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

The Art of Hand and Foot Posted July 9 Posted July 9 (edited) One of the draw backs of this system is that London were 10th in the championship and Newcastle were in league 1 last season. As such , particularly Newcastle, have had easier games. In fact the only time we would play Newcastle this season is in the playoffs! Daft. Edited July 9 by The Art of Hand and Foot 2
Stevos Barber Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Sorry old age kicking in. I'd watched a thing on Magic and forgot that the French weren't there.

I think Newcastle only play 2 teams who were in the Champ last season whereas we obviously have the hardest fixture list possible. Can't see Newcastle losing any games for the rest of the season aside from Barrow this week where we have some very tricky games plus London as well. I think we'll end up third but have deserved to finish second 3
sheddingswasus Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Honestly, the entire fixture list has been a total joke. London have had had some runaway scores but due to their appalling season last year, have been gifted some easy matches. When they have played the better teams the scores have been more level. 6

London follower here. I'd probably have agreed with the comment above if we hadn't walloped Dons yesterday, Sheffield at their new ground, and been untroubled by Midlands and Widnes at home much earlier on in the season. Oldham ran us closer than anyone (other than our single defeat to Bradford in the challenge cup) at home. So, the biggest test of the seaon awaits at Boundary Park next month versus your good selves. Can't wait, and hope it's a classic. Meantime, don't get me started on the IMG ratings. Farcical despite the fact some adjustments benefit us. Super League will have a serious reputational damage issue if we, or whoever wins the Championship grand final, does not replace Huddersfield. I'd love to think sense would prevail...but it's the RFL... 4 1
Stevos Barber Posted July 23 Author Posted July 23 I listened to the Championship Raw podcast today and Dave Cain and Craig Lingard rate our chances against the Broncos. On current form, Suffolk, you could get your wish of a classic 2
sheddingswasus Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Sadly I will miss that one. We will be away on holiday. 1

Stevos Barber Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 I was a little bit bored today with not going to the game so I ranked the teams in the Championship by their placing in the two divisions last year from us at 20 down to Newcastle at 1. I put Salford at a rating of 14 to reflect their problems which were known at the time the fixtures were compiled. Then I took the fixtures for the top three and added the positional ranking figures together. We all know that the system is flawed but, for interest, Londons "difficulty figure" is 292, Newcastles is 187 and ours 310. Bearing in mind London being full time it shows how good our unbeaten run was and should put results like last week and today into context as to how good the team has been and how great Killer has been 3 1

Enk27 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 So Newcastle won today. So barring a minor miracle by Dewsbury or us losing both games, looks like we are third. What this means is that game 1 will be vs 5th. Likely Widnes but could be Barrow or Sheffield (or even Doncaster). A tough game to come and missing out on the bye is a shame. Plus the way the system works, if we win then the only way to get any bye would be to beat London at London. We lose either game then to get to the final it would be 5 consecutive games. I see what they were going for with the playoffs to try and ensure that the winners have to beat at least three different teams or maybe up to 5. But can’t help feeling that there is a chasm in respect of prospective rewards between finishing 2nd and 3rd. 3

Bizarrely, losing the first game against Widnes results in only playing London once, being the final...........this is how it could play out in this scenario (assuming other results go according to league positions):- Week 2.....home to Midlands Week 3.....away to Widnes Week 4......away to Newcastle Week 5.....FINAL away to London That said, beat Widnes in week 1 and London in week 2 (away) and get week 3 off. We could end up playing London again at home in week 4......win that and a trip to Newcastle perhaps for the Final! Lose to London in week 2 and we'll be at home to Widnes again in week 3, then away to Newcastle in week 4 and a trip to London in the final! This looks harder than the scenario losing the first game against Widnes! 1 1
sb01 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 The way I see the potential playoffs are as follows: Week 1 We finish 3rd , Widnes 5th we play them at home. Let's suppose we win that. Week2 Qualifying Final 1 would be London playing at home agaist the huighest ranked winners from Week 1 - which would be Oldham Week 3 If we beat London we have a week off, if we lose then we are still in the playoffs. Sudden death play off 1 - Highest ranked loser of Qualifying finals (which would be Oldham) at home to the lowest ranked winner of elimination finals. If we assume by this stage we are left with the top 6 clubs at the end of the regular season then we would be at home to Barrow. Week4 If we beat Barrow then we would be in Premlinary Final 2 Lowest ranked qualifying winners from week 2 (which would be Newcastle,, if we lost to London, or us if we beat London) v Highest ranked sudden death winners, if we lose to London but then beat Barrow that would be us. Week 5 Grand final - presumably London v Oldham if we beat Newcastle or whoever in Week 4. So we could lose to London away in Week 2, and still win the Grand final if we then won every other fixture.
