personally I think it gives us a great chance to grow the grandfinal and potential ashes games even more and dare I say it even become a potential home for the challenge cup.

It'll never happen without significant govt funding. Estimated cost is £2bn+. Not only that if it does happen the cost to play there will sky rocket in comparison to what is currently paid for Old Trafford

Yeah , it would take something remarkable to happen for government to give funding for a project like this . We're talking something along the lines of the Mayor of Manchester becoming PM . Could never happen

Why should this club get central government support for their stadium? Local authority backing in one form or another isn't unusual (but it isn't going to be billions) but other than perhaps where clubs have inherited stadia built for national purposes like West Ham I can't think of any example of funding going to an individual club ground. 

Anyway if it does get a load of central money then it wouldn't be hard to insert a clause to say that the Super League Grand Final should be accommodated once a year at a favourable rate.

As long as its not the UK tax payers money to fund it i'm happy.

It’ll happen but probably a scaled down version.

I would think politically any public money would have to go into infrastructure around Old Trafford rather than the stadium itself. I'm thing of things like upgrading to Old Trafford and Trafford Bar tram stops to cope with increased crowds

You'd want it to be able to accomodate a full-size RL pitch and I'm not convinced that would be priority.

They will both be a bit of a trek with the revised location of the stadium. Certainly puts a lot more pressure on the Trafford Centre and Eccles lines.

But there could be the potential of restoring the heavy rail link which would be potentially huge.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think they sell out every home game now with the capacity around 75,000, so zero chance on a 100,000 capacity stadium.

I don't think united have an 120k waiting list.

 

They count season tickets per home game.if the holder rocks up or not it's counted.

I just had a quick look over this and they now have a thing called Cup Season Ticket Holder (which may itself have a waiting list - or at least is not always available). You have to have that plus be paying £100 pa (or more?) to have any chance with of getting a season ticket. And even with that your wait will be … an untold number of years.

Look at the timescale. You might be able to get there on HS2 by the time it is built.

I wonder if they will hope to play at City's ground like they did before?

I think the brand new stadium alone could add a extra couple of thousand to a grandfinal or ashes game crowd.
