daz39 Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Is there a better, more exciting, entertaining English Full-back out there? Not in my opinion, he's an absolute joy to watch and should be England's full back in the World Cup for me. 20 500 off 5,000, please sign https://www.change.org/StadiumforTheGiants
Wellsy4HullFC Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Agreed. I said this a few weeks ago. He's consistent and stand out in attack. I think the fear is his defence won't stand up against the bigger international teams. I don't think it's going to be any worse than any other full back we have. 2

Let's be honest, no English fullback's defence is going to be great against them so get him in, the unknown may suprpise them in attack. 1 500 off 5,000, please sign https://www.change.org/StadiumforTheGiants
Steampunk Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Fantastic to see Widnes lads ripping it up in Super League, even if we’ve got zero chance of ever playing in it again ourselves. 2

AJ Brimson is surely our first pick though? 1

Agbrigg Posted July 13 Posted July 13 AOB fullback, Connor half, Handley centre would be my first three names on the English team sheet, however our coach sees things differently. 1

The Duke Posted July 13 Posted July 13 He’s certainly a great player and really seems to have found a home in France i for one am glad that Toulouse are progressing and certainly a better showing than their last SL season i was initially sceptical when they didn’t open the cheque book and sign many but it seems to be working 1

Why? is he playing better than Olly or just cos he plays NRL makes him automatically better? 500 off 5,000, please sign https://www.change.org/StadiumforTheGiants

St Reatham Posted July 13 Posted July 13 On current form, he’s certainly playing his way into the England squad.
The Squirrel Posted July 13 Posted July 13 During the early part of the year I would have said Cai Taylor-Wray no question (OAB also had a bit of a shocker in one early game), but injuries have kept CTW out of action for a while now. Right now Ashall-Bott is absolutely the clear outstanding contender from Superleage - has been consistently high quality for months. I guess the ideal scenario would be for CTW to make a storming return to fitness while OAB maintains form and fitness as then you have an unusually nice selection dilemma - 2 excellent Superleague candidates for one position - when more often with England it's a case of who do we shoe-horn in to fill a position where there's nobody outstanding...

More a case of which player can we pick from the top clubs regardless of form but it's nice to have some genuine competition for places. 1 500 off 5,000, please sign https://www.change.org/StadiumforTheGiants
Waynebennettswinger Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Very exciting player and best attacking full back in Supet League this year IMHO. I agree with all comments in respect of defence, not exactly loads of brilliant defensive full backs knocking the door down. i also really like the look of Matthieu Jussaume, I know he’s French obviously. I appreciate the fact that I have only seen highlights of him and full matches against my own team but he looks another exciting player and he goes a bit under the radar. 1

I've watched nearly all of Toulouse's games this year because I was interested to see how they went and like an underdog. While OAB understandably gets the attention, Jussaume and Laguerre, along with Tropis until he got injured, are fine French players that would strengthen almost any SL squad. Cator looks a refreshed player vs the Hull version too. Their props took a while to step up after Dupree left, but are getting there now and now hold their own against most. The interesting one to me is actually Ulberg; he was flat-out poor during the early part of the season to the point I wondered why he was in the team, but seems to have put some work in, especially on positioning and defence - and was (for me) player of the match against Catalans and was very good again this week (albeit against a poor Sts team). All credit to him - good to see a player under pressure after some errors have the strength to turn it around - sort of the anti-Ravalawa situation. 3 1
dealwithit Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Shame that Flanagan Jr hasn’t had a good year. Thought he was a smoky to go on tour in the extended squad. Has some similar traits to Ponga. I’ve watched every TO game this year. AOB is exceptional. Not only quick, but incredibly strong. In defence he can almost let a player run past him, and then he can turn, chase down, and tackle from behind or side on. Means he avoids front on collision. Very clever, but only works if you’re lightning quick like he is. If TO can pick up another 3 wins to closeout the season, he’ll surely have played himself into the WC squad. 1
StandOffHalf Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Would be very exciting to see him in the #1, but you do have to play a particular type of high-temp football with players like that. Offloads, scoots, ball promotion, runs in around the ruck, etc.

OMEGA Posted July 14 Posted July 14 OAB would be my starting Full Back right now! He would add significantly to the attacking threat presented by Englands spine, he’s an unknown to the Big Nations and I have no doubt they’d underestimate him because of his size, however if his surname was Papenhausen or Ponga they’d respect his threat. 1 1
