Jarome Luai to SL

Tigers have released him from the last year of his contract before he moves to PNG.

I really can’t think of why any NRL club would take him on, while fully understanding he will only be there 12 months and playing against you the year after.

We have seen at the Dogs, what disrupting a successful spine can do to you, so as a title contender, I wouldn’t want him. 

As a club climbing off the bottom, I just don’t see what a one year band aid like Jarome achieves for a coach and a club building a new team.

Then clubs in the middle of the table… again, disrupting your spine to push for finals in 2027… then what? I can’t think of a club in the mix of the finals who would disrupt their squad for one year only, when I can’t think of a club he alone, will turn into a premiership team in 12 months.

I could see a club like Bears work maybe…

In saying all that, I reckon he would be ripe for a 12 month contract in SL as a marquee player. Similar to the Bears, a newly promoted London Broncos would be a great experience for him and a great way for the Broncos to carry themselves in their first year.

In saying that, I am sure a trail of SL clubs would be falling over themselves to sign him for 2027. I think the SL would really suit him and moreso than the NRL, could really go a very long way to turning a SL contender into a SL winner.

Would you have him at your SL club for one season only?

he won't be ready for SL  till he's 35- had 6 knee re constructions - been in trouble with the Aussie law and put 3 stone in weight on

Him and Voro in our halves, the twins, it would be fun (and they'll be playing together at Chiefs the following year !!!)

Doubt Luai will be over here next year but Tallis on NRL 360 speculated that DCE might be in Super League next year.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I think Luai is overrated. Without a Nathan Cleary next to him he seems to spend most of his time dancing around like a chicken and going sideways.

There’s speculation that is the case. I don’t see how it helps them in the mid term though, let alone long term.

DCE must be getting near the end. He has had his swansong this year and if the Roosters offer him another year, he will play on but once that ends, its boots on the peg time I think.

Hasn't other NRL players and still doing so, took a one year sabbatical at another club before joining the one which as signed them for the next season?

Don’t know. Can’t think of any and I can only imagine it would be under exceptional circumstances because noarmally, a club can’t speak to a player, let alone sign them until November 1 which is day 1 of the final year of their contract (all contracts run Nov 1 to Oct 31). 

If it has happened before, it was either not high profile enough or I’ve forgotten about it.

The only even vaguely similar thing I can think of was the swap deal that took Harry Grant to Wests Tigers for one season while he waited for Cameron Smith to retire, with Paul Momirovski going to the Storm for a year before they each went back to the other club the year after.

I agree with this too. He is a big name and personality but I don't really get it talent wise.

He did lend credibility to Wests Tigers and no doubt his signing encouraged other players to come to the Tigers and young players to remain at the club, but he hasn't really done a whole lot on the field.
