With Ralph Rimmer certain that Huddersfield won’t be going anywhere I can’t see how on the current grading system anyone can be relegated for London

Despite this I think London would offer something to Super League with their current investment (which I fear may be lost without a path to the top)

Moving to a 15 team league with a bye round might help teams with a bit of recovery time through the season - I would probably look to give London a bye at Magic Weekend as their travelling support wouldn’t warrant the removal of a heartland club

I would give Huddersfield a bye every round, I really can't think of a valid reason for keeping them in SL.

If Rimmer thinks they can come good their best bet would be to drop down, rebuild and prove their worth.

Fewer than the Dewsbury Giants?!

Just to point out that you can't have 15 clubs playing each other twice plus a magic weekend, as 29 x 15 is not an even number. You'd have to either add on an extra loop fixture for each team (so a 30 game season) or more likely, play one round of regular season fixtures as magic weekend, which means some clubs get more home games than others.

People are often quick to say clubs should be kicked out, you need to think about that club and the people involved, Huddersfield have offered a lot to SL over the years, sure they’re in a rut but they shouldn’t be written off.

Your 2nd option is the best, I think. We already have a club giving up home advantage for Vegas, and next year Dublin as well, I think. The clubs giving up home advantage can be alternated each year.

I am dim on fixture balance matters, so humour me please...why does the season total have to be an even number? What is the significance?

To get every club having an even number of home & away fixtures due to the odd number of teams

I get why 15 teams might make Magic Weekend awkward, but where is the problem with 15 teams each playing 14 fixtures home and away? A 30 round 28 game season and a week off twice in the season for every club doesn't seem problematic?

Is there potential in Huddersfield to turn it around by staying in SL though?

They haven’t got a suitable ground for next season for a start. Might do them the world of good to rebuild in the Championship by shedding some dead wood and winning some games while the new ground (they haven’t yet found a site for) is being built.

Can’t be turning away investment in London or binning off new SL clubs who are working wonders on next to nothing to save a zombie club that hasn’t offered anything vibrant to the game for the last decade. If we have to save Huddersfield from the drop then we need to find a way to go to 15 clubs.

You need 2 teams in each game, so the total number of rounds times the total number of teams must be an even number.

So with 15 teams, you can have 22, 24, 26, 28 or 30 rounds, but you can't have 27 or 29.

15 teams playing each other twice would give 28. Add a magic weekend onto that and you get 29 which doesn't work.

NRL fixes this by having 17 clubs and 24 rounds, i.e. each team doesn't play each other twice and they don't all get the same number of home games.

If you do that, then Magic Weekend has to be a normal round of fixtures, not a loop fixture. So 7 teams are giving up a home fixture for it.

Q: When will we know that 14 clubs is working for Super League?

A. Before we can answer that, we need to know what the move was meant to achieve. Seemingly, no one knows,

I don’t think it’s fair to say they haven’t offered anything to the game for 10 years. And yes 15 clubs would be good, 16 would be perfect.

Widnes for me, if they could sort their finances out.

The ‘home’ teams would get funded for it from ticket proceeds so they wouldn’t lose out.

Surely the primary MW conundrum in a 15 team league is the fact that there are 15 teams? You couldn't do it as loop OR regular round fixtures

As has been pointed out many, many times, the NRL manage just fine.

How do the bye rounds work in the NRL in achieving this balance?

Ahh I see now. So because the NRL has an odd number of teams, their version of MW skips one of the teams, but in order to have the same teams play the same number of games over the course of the season it HAS to be a regular round, therefore we get the loss of a home game for 8 of the 17 NRL clubs. I was baffled by the maths

Apologies for not seeing the many, many times this has been pointed out. I only look here once a month or so and don't dig back into threads, and don't follow the NRL!

Huddersfield had their time for brief moment just over a decade ago and did nothing with it and have been on an alarming downward trajectory both on and off the pitch ever since.

the competition owes them nothing and it’s time to give someone else a shot.
