Another drubbing today, it’s hard for me to comment with not travelling to an away game since Widnes but the stats don’t lie 250-ish points against and less than 30 for, that’s as bad as the last time we were in the championship, way out of our depth with the club clinging on for dear life.

The majority of these away games have been against ‘better’ opposition yes agreed, but the blow out score-lines have been terrible. Where do we go from here, feels like a real motivational, pride problem, has the dressing room given up? I just don’t know……

What felt like a really bright start from a ridiculous run of home games due to the pitch situation it’s turned into an awful few months….i got shot down earlier in the season for voicing concerns but my fears are being realised….. Fully accept it was always going to be a learning curve, yes I get other teams have bigger budgets…..but the margins of defeat are something we can’t just shrug our shoulders about……no more excuses, the coach always says the right things win or lose but actions speak louder than words…..show some fight, commitment lads. Look at the teams around us like Swinton, Haven (who almost went bump preseason)  have had some big set backs but still seem to put in more than respectable performances and are picking up wins here and there…..feels like we are a mile off week in week out.

We were always going to struggle in the long run of away games. Another flogging likely next weekend at Barrow before the long awaited return to Spotland v Whitehaven. That should be a marker for where we stand.

I’m on holiday so I haven’t been to the last few games. This sort of slide happens most of the time when we have to spend the best part of 3 months away from home. You get in a downward spiral without having home games to stop the rot and put things right. Plus the fact that a few more people each season find other things to do in summer when there are no home games to go to. Then they never come back.

I've said this before, and unfortunately the last five games have only reinforced it.

For me, this isn't about budgets, injuries or confidence. Every team has challenges. What I struggle to accept is a lack of visible effort and on-field leadership.

GT has mentioned confidence, but confidence comes and goes in sport. Effort, attitude and resilience are choices. When things are going against you, that's when your leaders have to stand up. Who are the players taking control? Who is demanding higher standards? Who is calming things down when we concede? At the moment, I just don't see enough on-field management.

I've commented previously that we only seem capable of competing in spells. We can produce 15 or 20 minutes of decent rugby, but as soon as momentum swings, heads drop far too easily.This has gone on for GT's entire tenure as coach. Good teams absorb pressure and reset. We seem to compound one mistake with another. In games when we are on top for a spell, certain players are happy enough to be standing over tackles and giving it the big un to opposition players.  

Conceding around 250 points while scoring just 24 across five games is unacceptable at any level. Nobody expects Hornets to dominate the Championship, and most supporters understood this season would be a huge step up. But there is a big difference between being beaten by better sides and looking beaten long before the final whistle.

The return to Spotland is important, but before we talk about tactics or confidence, I'd like to see a team that competes for every minute, wins the effort areas and shows some pride in the shirt. Supporters can accept losing; what they struggle to accept is the perception that the fight has gone.

That's where the focus needs to be.

The real problem is the hierarchy at the RFL who thought it was a good idea to amalgamate the divisions. There is simply too much of a gulf between the two. The only team to really have succeeded is Newcastle  but that is artificial as it is just York’s non playing squad.

i suppose it allowed them to bump London with their new owners as they were in serious  danger of relegation last year.

*Cough*  Even though I was very skeptical of the merger, I wouldn't say the Canes being where they are - having to play London, Newcastle, Oldham, Doncaster and Batley twice - isn't a success! 

Pretty sure Mazey was full-throated in his support of the merger (as was our Chairman), but very possible that he along with a number of other former League One clubs now regretting that position. 

I wouldn't be against the leagues being separated again, but the issue is that with 21 clubs there isn't really enough for two divisions without loop fixtures, which most clubs in League One were vehemently against. The prospect of getting more pro clubs into the professional game seems limited in the short-to-medium term, and that's a shame because I'd love a Nottingham or Coventry based club to join the ranks and provide us with a local rivalry!

I think you had a Coventry based club…..I wonder what happened to it
