We need to have more regulation over funeral directors. There have been a number of cases where the bodies have been treated in a manner the families would find distressing.

When people talk of getting rid of regulation and red tape, cases like this should be brought up again and again.

Right, well what can I say?

This is a case that has deeply shook this area of the country (maybe the rest as well I don't know). 

For 14 years this evil being ran this criminal enterprise, praying on the poorest people in our society, people who couldn't afford to go anywhere else. He took their money to fund his lavish lifestyle while treating their relatives simply like trash in the street.

Some of the facts are truly horrific. 35 bodies left to decompose in a warehouse. Half a ton of ashes just piled up. A stillborn baby's body left in a paper bag on the floor for 2 years, a body the police could only identify as human because the baby still had hospital tags on the arms. A woman who was given the supposed ashes of her relative only to find they were animal ashes. People had jewellery made with what they thought were their relatives ashes in them. 

The funeral directors union have said they weren't even aware of the legacy funeral homes existence and that the evil creatures membership had lapsed years ago. He sold fake funeral plans to hundreds of working class people who are now unable to claim that money back because there is no proof of the purchase. He stole money that was collected by relatives for charities.

The most horrible thing is that he hasn't shown any remorse for what he has done. He muttered a passing apology to a journalist but has not offered any meaningful apology to his victims. It seems as if he doesn't care about what he has done. 

When you read the details of the case, a 20 year sentence seems so soft, especially when the judge stated that he would only serve 10 years of it in prison. He has also been banned from directing a company for 14 years which means that by 2040, he could be doing this again. 

The entire city of Hull is very upset at the moment.

In court a statement was read out by his solicitor that did offer an apology and it even said that he knew it would not be accepted by the victims given the callous nature of his actions in this case.

I do think given the ongoing hurt, trauma and incredible breach of trust to people already grieving in their hour of need, nothing he can say will change what he did and few if any will find it easy to forgive him ever.

Certainly nobody will ever forget the breathtaking disregard for fellow human beings all to fund a lavish lifestyle.
