Brace yourselves: a forum upgrade is imminent!

Long time TRLers will know how much I dread having to upgrade the software that runs the forum.

In the olden days, it rarely went smoothly and would cause me days of headaches and stress to fix, and often lengthy periods of downtime.

On one memorable occasion, we even had to have a closing down party on an old forum system, as it couldn't be upgraded, only replaced completely - to what we're still using now, funnily enough, so the chaos was worth it, and wow, what a party we had, for those who remember it!! 😁 

Over the years, the nice chaps at Invision who create this lovely software have made the process a lot less scary, and sometimes, minor upgrades have even taken place without anyone noticing!

However, they are in the process of releasing what they call a 'major' version upgrade and I've been putting it off for months, for obvious reasons...

The clock is ticking, though, and I can't put it off forever, so brace yourselves for whatever happens next.

I don't actually know too much about what the upgrade will achieve in terms of look and feel, until its done, but hopefully it'll still be recognisably TRL on the other side.

I'll post a warning ahead of actually doing the upgrade. This is just an advance heads up that change is a-comin'

Just for info, Monday's unscheduled downtime wasn't anything to do with forum upgrades. We were subjected to a denial of service attack. If it isn't one thing its another... 😫

These don't occur daily messing up our devices, shutting it down when you want it the most and without your permission?

So the conspiracy on twitter/X is that there is no software upgrade, this is actually "A Purge"....

Musk has commented saying "its about time, that place is out if control"

Hacker group Anonymous has stated "it needs something done, its a terrifying place"

Dark Web creator xxx11xcbb11topboy said he would never dream of going on that forum, way too scary.

Obi Wan Kenobi said "You'll never find a more wretched hive of #### and villainy"...

I’ve seen another popular forum ruined and now a graveyard after a poorly implemented upgrade. 
 

Im sure this will be better though and im hopeful. You can only put these things off so long.

But we’ve been posting and messaging under this system all season and now we are a few weeks away from the finals the authorities want to change the format. 

This just makes a mockery of the 2026 season and plays into the favour of the British forum members who with their superior internet capabilities will get an unfair advantage.

You just can’t go messing with the season like this @John Drake 😉
