Supporting Featherstone Lions

Home for a week and I got the opportunity to get down to the Mill Pond Stadium to watch Fev Lions last Saturday.

Four quid in with a programme/team card. Pint of John Smith's. Nice afternoon. Pitch not as dry and hard as I'd imagined. A well coached team playing good expansive rugby beat decent opposition easily. 

Saw Lockwood, Davies, Hardcastle and Gale all looking good on the field. Impressive set of teammates too who I'm less familiar with.

Lovely afternoon out.

A fair few there, but I really think they deserve more. I'm surprised more Fev Rovers fans haven't chosen the Lions for their weekly RL fix in 2026.

We go but a lot have found other things to do,and it's the holidays.  A very good setup and we enjoy it.

Oh yes mate. Not having a go at anyone. Holidays are holidays, and no Fev Rovers has been a huge loss to us all in 2026. Just a jolly good afternoon out at the rugby in Fev, that's all. 

Do you think the 'year off' for the fans as it were will make it difficult for a possible Fev 2027 to attract them back? I think it might for some.

I know yer weren't having a go. That's one thing iam afraid of, many fans getting used to not going now. We'll get our usual diehards but it's not enough,IF we start up again the fans who have stopped going ( before the collapse) need to get back if they really do want  a team in Featherstone to support. Sadly the majority of the town aren't bothered if there's a team or not been like that since i started supporting the Rovers in 1970. I like to go on the Rovers Archive and look back,the 1960's had some crowds we could only dream of now. I know times have changed since the 60's but its a shame the town don't go in bigger numbers.

been to few lions game this season its great afternoon out couldn't go saturday but great win

I agree with this. We played some really good and attractive rugby in 2025 but the crowds were alarmingly sparse.

There are various reasons for this but having been arguably the most consistent Championship club for 15 years and knocking on the door of SL in one way or another for much of that time, I think plenty of the non-diehards became a bit disillusioned, and if we do return in 2027 we'll presumably be on the minimum £250k cap and also will be recruiting very late in the year compared to other teams - for instance, Danny Addy and Bailey O'Connor, who would both have been with us again in 2026 if we had got the go-ahead from the RFL, have already signed contract extensions with Dewsbury.

Shame that but they don't know if we will have a team,who dose? It makes you wonder if the lads now playing at Lions arnt keeping fit for a return,but they arnt getting any younger.

Yes, the ex-Fev players playing for Lions are all crowd favourites too but as you say they're all getting on a bit and most of them had already announced their retirement from the semi-pro ranks.
