It certainly would be a dumb idea. Have Magic in an 83k capacity stadium in a city with no RL precense at all, in a country with little RL, before even having it in France (if for some reason we would take it abroad anyway).

Quite a few budget carriers fly from the north to Madrid. Return ticket is cheaper than the train to London.

Madrid is a wonderful city, the Bernabèu is a fantastic stadium, centrally located, easy access. Id be there for sure.

But its very big. 83k can look very empty. 

The metropolitano looked dead when they held the 7s there and thats smaller at 70k. 

The weather is just unsuitable in summer so you would need to look way or autumn. 

Can't see it but would love it. Saying that Madrid has been looking to put on more events and isn't as full of tourists as Barcelona so is still trying to bring some tourism in.

Slightly separately, ive always thought we could get more change out of secondary or even tertiary cities in europe. 

Obviously theres prestige in a big global city like Madrid, but San Mames in Bilbao has 50k or Anoeta in Donostia has 40k. 

Maybe not for Magic but you also have somewhere like El Molinon at 30k in Gijon. A council owned stadium literally minutes from the beach, plenty of bars and restaurants in a tourist city virtually unheard of in the UK. You have a similar proposition in Vigo or A Coruña

We've had good success in Perpignan and been able to engage well with local government there and we arent going up against the NFL size events like we are in Madrid sized cities.

Obviously we’re in dreamland territory here but the Rizor is a fantastic stadium in an unbeatable setting, I’d definitely go to Magic there!

There needs to be some purpose to it other than just a nice holiday destination for players and fans and a different backdrop for the tv audience. If you're playing a game in random mid-sized European city, you need a way of funnelling any interested locals towards a local club they can join.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

Why though? Obviously it would be ideal to do that but there’s nothing wrong with a ###### up in the sun for fans to enjoy. It’s not like the NFL London games are there to grow the British game, it’s to get more eyeballs on their game.

I’ve just returned from visiting all of these cities over the past two and a bit weeks. Madrid is bakingly hot and also Bernabeu is relatively central cost would indicate no chance. San Mamés is much more central in Bilbao and Donostia a little less so but I’d go for either of those   Bearing in mind proximity to French border.

Im not necessarily sure it does, at least immediately. 

If fans have fun, it makes a bit of money, that in itself builds a better product and is worthwhile.

After that, yeah some roots can be put down,  that would be great and is so vital to the wider health of the game

It's good to see the careful selection process that goes into deciding these locations. Such as a club CEO wanting to go to the Madrid derby.
