With the inevitable breakup of the present squad it will be interesting who will be with us next season.

Does anyone know is signed on already to complete their present contract?

Farnworth and Lannon are signed for 2027.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Just had a quick nosey through the websites and

Luke Forber until end of 2027

Owen Farnworth until end of 2028

Ryan Lannon until end of 2027

And interestingly

Jack Ormondroyd until end of 2027 - see what happens with that one I guess

Big changes ahead. I can’t see Jack O staying. He’s barely playing for Bradford. I think he’ll go to Salford; no insider knowledge but I just do. If the current squad, given that JD is going and Adam Milner/Matty Ashurst are surely getting to the end of their careers ( though I think there’s another season in them yet), I’d like to keep most of the current squad, unless we can find/afford even better. Ted, Owen, Brad definitely off the forwards. Nesbitt, Ben OK, Jack W and Bibby in the backs. I think Ben Davies will improve. Mattie Wildie is a leader to keep. Going to be an interesting summer, constrained by more realistic finances I suspect.

About a third of this year’s playing budget. Can’t see us holding on to two many I’m afraid. Hope I’m wrong though.

Some players will decide it's not worth their while any more.

Would have thought it will go back to being more local. Oldham well placed geographically.

Without trying to be controversial, the salary cap is more about appeasing the lower clubs rather than encouraging more progressive clubs to improve and prepare for SL. Talk about race to the bottom!

Not a squad member, but still a part of what we have this year.

Newcastle/York are cutting back a lot.  Their model doesn't work with a cap.

It's gunna be interesting to see how the cap effects the player pool in the championship.

On face value it should be more of a level playing field for the teams but I worry if the money ain't right for some of the players they might just drop out of the game all together

The Board have intimated that they will not be bankrolling the club & therefore attendance & sponsorship income will be the driver to which salary cap bracket that we fall into & I think we are behind the likes of Salford, Widnes, Doncaster, Barrow, Halifax (?) in terms of average attendance therefore, to be in the top quartile (top 5) as TF said will require some shrewd recruitment.

I think you’ll see less SL players dropping down to the Championship in the future as well.

Not mad at this approach in fairness

Followed this up with a new thread about average attendances across the championship this season

After a couple of years being spoilt, suspect we will have to accept a little more mediocrity. Losing Dicko is probably a sign of things to come sadly. If we are reliant on crowds, we are a long way behind Donny, Widnes, Salford, Halifax and Barrow.

With the new salary cap, and without Bill's money, I think we all agree we won't be able to keep the same squad for next year.

In that case which 5 players from this year who will be out of contract would you like to see re-sign for 2027?

Nisbet, Davies, Smith, Wildie and Day.

I am sure people have different ideas.

Wonder whether senior players like Wildie, Ashurst, Milner and Thornley will retire. Would definitely like to keep Day, but have heard he might be going elsewhere. Whilst he's improved a lot, still not convinced by Smith, but there are not many halves knocking about. Davies and Nisbet are a big thumbs up from me. Delighted that we've already got Owen, Ted and Lennon pinned down.

With Luke Forber, Owen Farmworth, Ted Chappy & Ryan Lannon all ready contracted

I'm 5 must tie down players are.

Nisbet, Day, Davies, O'Keefe & Walker.

Obviously you'd keep Drinky if he wasn't going in to coaching and picking just five is hard because id love to keep Ashurst & Wildie as well if possible.

You'd imagine Thornley, Ashurst, Milner and Drinky are retiring.  As good as they are they are a huge chunk of the playing budget so whilst we won't replace their individual quality we may be able to have a deeper squad. Can see us going for younger players like Irwin, High and Bentley who we don't know too much about but have plenty of potential.

Day and Walker would be must keeps for me. Day would be up there for player of the season and Walker once he got over his slow start with no pre season has been superb. There's not really any player I wouldn't want to keep and I think under Kilshaw they all seem very happy.

It would appear that the RFL have asked Super League clubs, whether they want to have a Reserves competition next season. It seems that some are likely to say no, but some will still want that. If however, let[s say only 5 or 6 clubs say they want a reserve competition (Wigan, St Helens, Warrington, Leeds, and a couple of others) then that may not take place.

What could happen is that those who dont want a reserves competition, woujd have surplus players each week, which they could loan out to an EFL club on some sort of semi-permanent basis e.g. Huddersfield with Dewsbuiry, one of the Hull clubs with Goole, York with Newcastle (although nowhere near the same extent as this season), Leeds with Hunslet etc.

That could mean that either a number of young players who dont quite make the grade would be available to be signed to go along with our more experienced players (e.g. Chapelhow, Lannon, Farnworth etc) or we could enter a similar arrangement as proposed above with (maybe) Wigan or Warrington - given that there is where most of our loans have come from this season.

This could possibly make our limited salary budget go a bit further.
