Stirlin Posted September 4 Author Posted September 4 IF Thunder get to the champ final and beat Broncos........ major meltdown for Daddy.

Our social engagement at Thunder is through the roof after last weekend. It's not a case of who's next, it's Thunder! If we beat any of Doncaster, Oldham or Widnes in the playoffs it'll only get livelier! 3
rich f Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Can someone please explain to me what have London actually done apart from buy the best side in the championship? Have their attendances rocketed? Has participation gone up around there? Have they got a brilliant social media with millions of views? Im genuinely struggling to see where they are scoring higher than us in any aspect of IMG. I just don't get it. Id rather have the like of Widnes, Oldham or a reborn Fev competing for superleague as they would bring far more. I don't dislike London, but I thought IMG was brought in to stop teams just throwing money at buying the best team and then going bust when the owners lose interest. How are London any different this season? 5

I think last season they had 20k Facebook followers now it's around 110k. However I don't think they are anywhere near the attendance thresholds. Hosting the final game against Swinton in a 4500 London Scottish rugby ground not to dissimilar to Thunders ground and giving away free entry. Watched weschels podcast interview this week still talking about engaging the Aussie NZ community are they actually attending? 1

Watched weschels podcast interview this week still talking about engaging the Aussie NZ community are they actually attending? Its bizarre. You are right about the Facebook stuff but that will collapse next season when all the PNG lot leave. Its a farce. Their attendances are shocking, Im not seeing any engagement with the Aussie/ NZ community and they play games all over the place. Its not like there are loads of youngsters coming through and they are engaged in the local community game. Its simply because they have a big bank balance, a big name backing them and woods mate running the show. Its disgusting, just who do they think they are? They act like its a done deal and they are the new big dogs, but to be honest I'm struggling to find a single reason why they should be anywhere near superleague. I honestly thought IMG was about clubs building gradually, like the Knights have done, and to stop clubs just buying the league with no infrastructure in place and then going bust. Its genuinely baffling. Its actually really annoying me now that York, a club that has done everything right, built stong foundations, got half funding ,put in a brilliant effort in their first season in superleague and done everything by the book should be in a position that a few weeks before the end of season they don't know if they might be kicked out of superleague for a club like London to take their place. A club who despite been given numerous opportunities over the years have achieved and built absolutely FA! Please please can Newcastle, or anyone else come to that, just turn them over in the playoffs and end this utter farce. 3
Gav Wilson Posted September 4 Posted September 4 York aren't getting kicked out, settle down. I really hope that the NRL deal gets done and London become team 15 though. 1 @GavWilson

The thing is Gav you don't know that for a fact. Nobody does. I'm quite settled and don't believe York will be kicked out if there is any justice and common sense applied, but unfortunately this is rugby league and the question is still there. Just a few weeks before the end of the season absolutely nobody knows for certain what is happening. I hope the NRL take over, but even then what have London done to justify superleague increasing to 15 teams to accommodate them? Why do you want them in? Why are they even in the conversation? So far I've not seen any evidence that they are anywhere near a superleague club.
Expatknight Posted September 4 Posted September 4 As always the RFL will do what they want, even if it means changing the rules, it’s not like it hasn’t happened before is it? London in various guises have had umpteen opportunities to make the game work down there and it never has, for whatever reason, and this season, sweeping all before them they still can’t get a decent following. The expats aren’t interested, never have been and never will, apart from the old diehards who else is there? It is a parody of Field of Dreams except no matter where you build it nobody will come. 3

Ha, I love your optimism, all joking aside if the RFL want them in then their score will be what it needs to be, the only stumbling block is the central funding issue, Lockyer wasn’t impressed with the terms that applied to York and Toulouse and said it wouldn’t be acceptable to London.

AB Knight Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I love how York’s financial figures have become common knowledge and posted by journalist(s) today which would give the TRL General Forum Bovril Brigade something genuine and factual to talk about……but the Brigade spent 40 pages talking absolute drivel ‘YoRk ArE aBoUt tO GeT KiCKeD OuTTa tHe lNEr sTAdIUm’ and so got it locked yesterday 3

As soon as Gary Hetherington went you knew what was coming next, same as Nigel Wood at Bradford. They can say what they want but imho Bulls got in because of NW mainly. 3

Plus in the case of London no matter what the RFL say if they agree to the NRL coming in as partners London in SL will be part of that. 1
Stirlin Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 Hope the RFL get their skates on announcing a new main sponsor for SL/Champ , next season shirts need to get off the design table onto production in time for Xmas. 1

You are expecting a bit much there, they don’t even know who will be in Super League yet, let alone who is going to sponsor it, you will be asking for equal funding next 1 2
