Specifically, leaving a game early when your team is winning?

I've been seeing a lot of posts on social media (and seeing at games tbf) talking about football fans leaving games early even when their team is winning. The justification people give is to beat traffic or go for the train, an argument that people seem to be pretty okay with.

My personal view on that is that I would factor in the travel time into my day out and I really wouldn't see it as a problem. For night games at the MKM, I get home at about 11.30pm, and with my old job be getting up again at 5.30am but I didn't see this as a problem, it was all just part of following my team.

What's everyone else's views on this?

Unless it impacts me - i.e. a groups walking in front of me as they go - I don't much care.

The capacity at certain football grounds means travel home is a real challenge for some midweek. Not a big issue on Saturday but an 8.00 kick off midweek can pose a serious problem for some fans with connecting last trains etc. due to the queueing times at the nearby stations. And driving to the likes of Spurs and Arsenal can be interesting, especially midweek.

I watch non-league football but occasionally leave early. I have sleep apnea, if my eyelids start drooping at an away match it's time to drive home. Safety comes first.

I walked out before 3/4 time of my club’s opening match of the season at the MCG this year. They were getting absolutely pumped. I had no interest in sticking around.

If my team were winning by the same margin… I definitely would have stuck around to the end of the match to give stick to any and all of the opposing fans leaving early.

I think anyone leaving a game early can't be a proper fan and should have their season ticket confiscated.

Doesn't matter if you're 40 points down, it's absolutely freezing and you've spent 75 minutes questioning every life decision that brought you to this moment. You stay until the final hooter.

None of this "beating the traffic" nonsense either. You sit in the traffic afterwards like a proper rugby league fan and continue moaning about the referee.

Unless you're a Bradford fan obviously. Then I wouldn't bother turning up in the first place.

Who are your team?

Rugby Union the only game in the world were the spectators handle the ball more than the players.

I've done it quite often win or lose. First at the bar 😉

Not a true supporter then.

Can't enjoy the highs if you don't stick around for the lows.

That was the Bombers. Sharks in RL.

I don’t believe in the concept you need to sit and watch your team get smashed to be classed as a true fan.

Then you can never really appreciate being a fan then mate.

You're a casual, thats fine, but it does restrict your perspective on fan issues.

Wow. MCG or Wheldon Road Cas . Could there be more of a contrast? That said , if the MCG do a few more improvements then it could rival WR in the future 😉😆

I bought into that "true" fan thing once, home and away, always stayed to the end, always applauded off the team (at least one player must have done their best right?) but then the owners let the team get progressively worse and I stopped going, only go to 1 or 2 games a year now.

On the other hand, I have paid for 80 minutes rugby, and I am going to get that, scream at the ref to stop the clock when it needs to be stopped, and I do stay to the end when I go, and because I go with others we usually leave by group consensus.

I believe in the concept of appreciating players' efforts and putting their bodies on the line for our entertainment.

You don't get to cheer the good times if you aren't prepared to take it on the chin through the bad times.

there is some truth to that.

I don’t believe he who grieves the most is the most passionate though.

I think it’s fine especially if there is a huge margin between the sides, it’s always good to get an early get away and nip to the chippy. Plus you’ve paid your cash to get in so you should do what you like. I’ve spent more time this season staying till the end just to boo the side off. I applauded them after we beat Wakey, Wigan, Leigh.

Evening public transport can be challenging.  Eight o'clock kick-offs, indecisive video refs - sometimes options become fewer.

Well the Leeds fans certainly left early tonight!

I was about to say something similar 😂

I've walked off one of my team's games early once in 51 seasons. We were 28-nil down at Whitehaven and I thought 'balls to this, it's awful' - left with 5 mins to go. I heard the hooter as I put the key in the car door.

I've come close another couple of times: once at Dewsbury and once at Wakefield, but watched the last 5 mins from the exit.

As a very good late friend of mine used to say to fans leaving early: "What makes you so special - stay and suffer with the rest of us."

Just the fans?

(The only time Id leave eaarly is if I was soaking wet or freezing and even then, I'd probably be looking for shelter inside the stadium)

Q: When will we know that 14 clubs is working for Super League?

A. Before we can answer that, we need to know what the move was meant to achieve. Seemingly, no one knows,
