The Squirrel Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Quite some career you’d have to say. Has been a real leader at York. Theres a really nice 3 minute montage here featuring all his previous clubs. https://www.yorkrlfc.com/post/paul-vaughan-set-to-retire 6 1
StandOffHalf Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Likeable chap. A jolly good career. Happy Retirement to him! 1
StandOffHalf Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Nice series of clips that York put together in tribute to him.
YCKBob Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Been a fantastic signing for the Knights. Doesn't look like a 35 yr old when he's out there. Could have played for at least another year if he'd chosen to. Happy retirement to him. 4
Dave T Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Great signing for SL. Seems a nice guy. Seems to have enjoyed his time over here, played with a smile on his face, Seems to have enjoyed experiencing Europe with his family. Been great on the field. When people moan about older Aussie signings they need to think about guys like this. Its possible to be older, have an ambition of seeing the world, and also being a bloody good RL player. 16
Expatknight Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Been great for us, just what we needed to beef up the pack and great for Jack Martin and Xavier Va’Aa to learn from. Obvious he was going for the last couple of months once his wife and kids went back to Oz. Must have been tough for him seeing them go. Would have loved for him to stay but he knows better than anyone when the time is right to call it a day. Hope he has a long and happy retirement. 2
gavin7094 Posted September 9 Posted September 9 York have been a much better team this season when he has been on the field. Blake Lawrie has some big boots to fill. 3
Just Browny Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Good luck to him. I thought he was on a two-year deal and that was part of his reasoning for joining York. He has certainly been a great addition to Super League and hasn't looked like time is catching up with him on the field. 1 I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

He was and when interviewed a couple of months ago, around the time of all the rumours and speculation about the Knights, said as far as he was concerned he would see out the remaider of his contract , something has obviously changed because shortly after that his wife and children returned to Oz. He has been a pleasure to watch in a Knights shirt and really brought our pack to another level. 1 1
DEANO Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Fabulous player sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward
Simon Hall Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Gutted he's retiring, would have like to see what we can do with him surrounded by better players. He's been massive for York this year, and while we certainly aren't a one man team I've no doubt without him we'd have been bottom of the league ages ago. Some big boots to fill for whoever is replacing him, although Jack Martin & Xavier Va'a are much better players from his influence. 5
The Squirrel Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Plenty of good players have gone one season too long. Always better to retire with people still seeing you as a top quality player (which Vaughan definitely still is) and wondering if you had another good season left in you, rather than remember a faded final season version. Wish him all the best. That said - yes I agree, I'm disappointed too, yes York are probably bottom without him this year - his threat, particularly near the tryline is huge in dragging players into the centre and making spaces outside, and he can turn a going nowhere set into a roll forward set with a single carry. 1
