Thought we were announcing it before tonight or have I missed it

sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

My thoughts exactly. I'll be pretty disappointed if any of the lads are playing their last game tonight and we don't know about. They deserve a send off.

I thought we moved on from that sort of thing.

Just my opinion of players who I think will be leaving and who will be staying, I must add I’m just a fan and know of only the rumours what everyone else has:

Fullbacks

-Toa Mata’afa(Q) Leaving-Rumoured to be leaving and going back home at the end of the season, sad to see, was unplayable before his injury, his 4th play carries, released so much pressure, if he’d carried on before the injury wouldn’t have been surprised to see other SL and possibly NRL teams sniffing about.

-Jordan Lipp(Q) Staying-Played at Newcastle all season, looked tidy at half back, creating lots of tries for Ward and that edge, from the fans forum Mash said he’s a York player next season.

-Will Dagger Leaving-I really wish I wasn’t writing this one, got a soft spot for Daggs, too many injuries, I feel he’ll leave to go get game time elsewhere, likely to see him in the Championship next season.

Wing

-Ben Jones Bishop Staying-I think one more season for Bish, looks like he’s still got it in him to carry on, stays injury free and I think he’ll have a blinder of a season next year.

-Scott Galaeno(Q) Staying-Easy one for me, first name on team sheet every week, solid in defence and loves a carry, prefer him at centre but I’m sure he’ll be completing for a starting wing spot next season.

-Jon Bennison Staying-Feel for Bennison, has a great game followed by a bang average, still more to come from the lad, he’s a Grand final winner and one of the better kickers of the ball, kept pressure on in the saints game by his conversions.

-Jack Smith Staying-Another one who’s had a season at Newcastle, think he fits the mould for mash to develop him next season.

Centre

-Sam Wood Staying-Didn’t know much about him apart from him being Cas Captain, loved watching Wood this season, he’s a winner, when you watch him in person he’s constantly screaming and demanding more from the players around him.

-Nikau Williams(Q) Leaving-Another one I don’t want to be writing about, I feel he’s leaving just due to Quota issues, hopefully stays in the UK and continues to shine wherever he goes.

Stand Off

-Ata Hingano(Q) Leaving-I feel the times right for Ata to move on, solid game time elsewhere in his preferred position, takes one of the Quota and can help to develop another half and allow for more minutes for younger forwards.

-Will Roberts Staying-Only playing a handful of games for York but looked a threat, think he’ll continue his development next season under Mash and possibly a new halve coming in.

Scrum Half

-Liam Harris Staying-If you asked me this a few weeks ago I’d have said he’s already gone, but he’s come back in to the team and looks hungry again and can’t wait to see more out of Liam next season.

-Danny Richardson Leaving-Think he’ll sign for Widnes full time, solid SL halve on his day, but unfortunately didn’t happen enough.

Prop

-Jack Martin(Q) Staying-Mr Consistent, only 25, I think if you can tie him down to a long term contract and he’ll one day be up there as one of Yorks all time bests.

-Paul Vaughan(Q) Leaving-Retiring as a legend for York and RL in general.

-Xavier Va’a(Q) Staying-Love the man, offer him what you want, he’s a young prop going places.

-Justin Sangare Leaving-Not loved by Mash, and other than first game of the season just hasn’t had the impact what he showed for Salford, can see him leaving.

-Kieran Hudson Staying-Hopefully keep hold of Hudson, a strong carrier off the bench, but shows no care for his body in defence, I think there’s more to come from him.

-John Sagaga(Q) Leaving-Don’t think quota will allow for him to stick around, signed off the back of the Penrith connection, he’s showed up well for Newcastle, predominantly playing at hooker off the bench, don’t see him making the step up to SL.

-Ryan Jackson(Q) Staying-Was hoping Jackson got a run in SL this season, but not to be, when he was announced I was excited and hopefully he’ll get a game next year.

-Mitch Clarke(Q)Leaving-Been solid in the Champ but with him being a Quota player can see him leaving.

Hooker

-Thomas Doyle Staying-Just signed, he looks tidy, couple of head farts against Wakey, but I think when settled in to the team and system, will be very competent at getting us around the field.

-Paul McShane Staying-Him having the hump because Mash took him off in Bradford game just shows he wants to go around again next year, using him with Doyle/Inman replacement is what I can see happening.

-Denive Balmforth Leaving-End of his loan, back to Hull, but been solid for us this year.

-Taylor Pemberton Leaving-I think Taylor will leave to go to Newcastle, captain there again and keep the partnership going between the two clubs.

Second Row

-Josh Griffin Leaving-Already retired halfway through the season.

-Jesse Dee(O) Leaving-Again this comes down to Quota issues, I want him to stay, but struggle to see who gets let go instead of him to allow for Quota numbers.

-Oli Field Staying-Second name on the team sheet for me behind Galaeno, future captain, does the little things really well, and the hard graft which he’s being getting the rewards for this season.

-Kieran Buchanan Leaving-Was solid for us last season in the championship, 8/10 performance every week, but hasn’t shown that step up to SL, not played as many games, I feel he’s another one who will make the transfer to Newcastle.

-Matty Foster Staying-Young forward, who seems hungry, never takes a backwards step in carries, and has a last minute step which has caused problems this season, think we will see his development next season.

Loose Forward

-Jordan Thompson Staying-Statue out the front of the stadium for Tommo, think he’ll move more into the front row next season and be used as an interchange off the bench, but excited for him to go around again.

10 Quota allowed

(1) Cameron McInnes

(2) Blake Lawrie

(3) Jack Martin

(4) Xavier Va’a

(5) Jordan Lipp

(6) Scott Galaeno

(7) Jesse Dee

(8) David Nofoaluma

(9) Cody Hunter

(10) Ryan Jackson

Coming in

FB-Max Jowitt - Coming in adds more fuel to the rumour that Toa is off home at the end of the season.

C-Zak Hardaker - Hardaker/Wood in the centres is a partnership that excites me next season.

LF-Cameron McInnes(Q) - Yes he’s 32 years old, but he’s got over 200+ NRL games under the belt, 17 games in the NRL season, 1314 meters(77 avg), 547, averaging 32 tackles a game, excited for next season to see what he’ll bring.

P-Blake Lawrie(Q) - Assuming a Vaughan replacement, 171 games for St George, 11 games this season, with 335 post contact meters, a solid front row

P-Matty English-Signed on Loan from Huddersfield, never got to see him play this season, but will have his name in the ring for a starting front row spot next season.

Potentially Coming Up From Newcastle

-David Nofoaluma(Q) - Played majority of the season for York, and played very well, Yorks highest try scorer with 15, also the leagues 10 highest metre maker with 3138, no brainer to sign him full time next season from Newcastle.

-Cody Hunter(Q) - Another who’s played the majority of his season for York, played well with Liam these last couple of games, 8th in the league for Try Assists, another no brainer to sign full time.

-Tom Inman - Very impressed when called upon, injury to end the season, but can see Inman coming up next season.

-Myles Harrison, Joe Law, Brad Ward, Harvey Reynolds - Mash said at the fans forum of having a bigger squad I think these 4 will be called up to the York team from Newcastle to develop them more this season.

Again this is all just my opinions. Up the Kneets!

Agreed @rich f if that was the last game in a York shirt for a few of those players, especially the ones that have been with us for most of the Clint era. It's a bit of an anti climatic way to go out.

Unfortunately player's dont have the same connection with the club as us fan's, thats just how it is these days

Agree with both things you've said.Have only seen lipp at the start of the year but he looked nowhere near physically capable for SL.In regards to Dee ive been to every game this year and ive seen him miss or slip off way too many tackles which have led to linebreaks or tries.I know it wont be the popular choice with majority of fans because hes been a brilliant servant and was a very good player for us in the championship but i think unfortunately now is the right time to part with Jesse if we are looking to improve

What is popular with the fans won't necessarily win us games. and there comes a time when you have to take sentiment and emotion out of the equation. The question I always ask when assessing players is this:- Would they get in any other top 6 SL team? We have a couple who give 100% every week and never let us down, but, will that take us any further?

Well here it is agree with them decisions that were in our hands would have liked to have kept Balmforth but so be it don’t think it’s the last we’ve seen of him in a York shirt. Was hoping to see a few more faces on there the likes of Sangare nikau  Clark etc.Intrested see what happens on the quota front now.

There's a few players I'd release who are very popular. Its about how serious we are in taking it to the next level.

Also there are players with 'promise' who don't look to me like they've got the potential to be established SL players.

That is who has been released, it doesn't mean more won't leave. I hope we keep, Harrison, Ward, Law, Reynolds and Hudson. In my opinion they have more SL potential than Sangare, Buchanan and Nikau. I'd also have liked to have kept Ata.

I'd keep Hudson out of those but that's it. We've got to move forward.

Possibly but if you look at the Newcastle squad’s they do say Clark and Sagaga are loans

Gotta keep Reynolds he’s gonna be a very very good player in years to come.Always liked what I’ve seen from Joe law when he’s played him and Myles were both very good in CC against KR and Brad ward has got 37 tries this year just finishing championship top scorer ahead of the London contingent.Think it would be fair to give them all new deals they’ve definitely earnt it

Guess Newcastles season isn’t over yet so will probably name a few more after that.

Re Brad Ward, he is still young, has a great attitude, knows where the try line is and has loads of potential, he is strong and quite quick, in my opinion, for what that’s worth, I think in a couple of years he will make a very good second row, he certainly has the build for it.

As said, Reynolds is going to be a good player, another season at Newcastle will do him good.
