Clark cost £185,000, says Warrington Wolves owner

Warrington Wolves owner Simon Moran has confirmed that star signing Daryl Clark cost the club £185,000 – making him the sixth most expensive player in Rugby League history.

The Wolves confirmed a deal to bring Clark to the Halliwell Jones Stadium had finally been completed on Wednesday, after months of speculation about whether or not a deal was in place for Castleford to let their star hooker go to a major rival.

And Moran – speaking with the Warrington Guardian – called Clark the “best possible replacement” for retiring hooker Michael Monaghan, whilst also outlaying the amount of money spent to lure Clark over the Pennines.

“We agreed terms well over a year ago with Castleford. We’ve paid a fee of £185,000,” Moran said.

“It was contracted that he would stay with Castleford in 2014 and then would join us for four years. That just worked for both parties.

“Monaghan is a fantastic player. Barring possibly one or two hookers in Australia, Daryl Clark is the best possible replacement. He’s a great talent and we can’t wait to see him in primrose and blue.”
