Hull KR in talks with Mitch Garbutt over move for 2019 season

Hull Kingston Rovers are in talks with Leeds prop Mitch Garbutt for 2019, and are on the verge of completing a deal for the Australian for next season.

As reported in League Express last month, the Rhinos have told several members of their first-team squad that they are free to find other clubs as they seek to revamp their fortunes under new coach David Turner in 2019.

And Garbutt, who has been with the Rhinos since 2015, is understood to have interested a number of Super League clubs – including Rovers.

Last week, Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell told the Hull Daily Mail that the Robins were still on the hunt for a number of new players next season – though head coach Tim Sheens has been instructed to trim his squad for 2019.

Hudgell said: “We expect to sign three more players but we want quality over quantity because the squad last season was too big by far and Tim has a brief to reduce that.”
