Seven Wigan players offered to clubs

A list of seven Wigan players headed by Joe Burgess and Dan Sarginson have been offered to clubs following the opening of the transfer window.

Players off-contract are free to speak to other clubs as of May 1st, with several Wigan talents now free to negotiate a deal elsewhere.

Both Burgess and Sarginson fall into that category and their availability was alerted to clubs in an email distributed last week along with back-rower Joe Shorrocks.

Caine Barnes, Ollie Partington, Jake Shorrocks and Jack Wells were the other four players listed, however, the Warriors do have an option in their favour to extend the contracts of the quartet.

The email wasn’t sent by the Warriors themselves.

Burgess and Sarginson are both in their second spells with the Warriors after brief careers in the NRL.

Both capped by England, Burgess has previously expressed a desire to try his hand in the NRL again, although his availability will also catch the attention of many Super League clubs.

The winger joined Sydney Roosters in 2016 but was restricted to just four appearances, although he impressed during a loan spell at South Sydney Rabbitohs, scoring five tries in nine games.

The Bunnies were understood to be keen on making the move permanent, but he had already agreed to return to the Warriors.

As for Sarginson, the centre spent a year at Gold Coast Titans in 2017 though it was largely disrupted by a season-ending shoulder injury which allowed him to make just six appearances.

He made 19 appearances for Wigan last season and has made ten so far this term, scoring one try.
