St Helens triumph in epic bout with Leeds

St Helens returned to winning ways thanks to a 38-34 win over Leeds.

Jonny Lomax scored twice on his return from 13 months out injured to give St Helens a crucial victory that puts more pressure on Leeds in their pursuit of the top eight.

Lomax and Joe Greenwood put St Helens ahead before Ashton Goulding, Rob Burrow and Jimmy Keinhorst put Leeds in front 16-10, but Lomax’s second meant the teams were tied at the break.

The teams exchanged tries early in the second-half before Saints edged ahead as Greenwood got his second and Theo Fages got in on the act.

Anthony Mullally’s try cut the deficit back, but another Fages try gave Saints a ten point cushion.

Keinhorst’s second for Leeds resulted in a nervy finish, but Saints just about survived to take the points.
