Grant Millington has admitted that contract talks have been put on hold with Castleford due to COVID-19.
The veteran prop is off-contract at the end of the season and, despite being keen to discuss terms on a new deal, discussions have been put on the backburner, with the Tigers trying to figure out where they stand financially.
Millington, 33, is in his ninth season with the Tigers, where he has established himself as one of the club’s most dependable players.
Despite being frustrated by the situation, the forward admits he understands the predicament facing the club.
“Talks are on hold for us,” he said.
“For me it’s wait and see. Most players at most clubs are wait and see. There’s so much doubt about the type of money in the game that clubs can’t financially commit to signings.
“There are so many unknowns and variables at the moment, and as a player it’s very frustrating, but we’re talking about a rugby contract when people have been dying.
“It’s not the end of the world, but we’d definitely love things to move as quickly as possible so we can plan our lives. Without a contract, you’ve got no income effectively.
“We have a contract until a certain time and if nothing comes along after that there is nothing, potentially. So the sooner we know the better, so we can get some plans in place to feed our families. With a little bit patience I hope we can start making some progress.”
