Savelio insists Castleford’s top four hopes are still alive

On-loan Castleford Tigers forward Andre Savelio has insisted that their top four hopes are not over yet – and says that victory against Hull tonight would go a long way towards shaking up the end-of-season run-in.

St Helens’ victory on Thursday means that Castleford stand nine points adrift of the four going into their first Super 8s game as they attempt to bring the gap back to seven with just 12 left to play for.

But Savelio, who will make his second appearance for the Tigers tonight, says that it’s not impossible when it comes to Cas putting together a run to make the semi-finals.

“It’s nowhere near over,” he told TotalRL.

“If we can go six from seven, who knows? It’s going to take results falling our way but there’s always a chance, as long as it’s mathematically possible.”

Savelio admits the challenge of facing a side hunting success on all fronts will be a daunting ask, but says the Tigers have to be confident following victory at the KCOM Stadium earlier in the year.

“They’re playing well, Hull. They’ve got a lot of big names and a lot of good combinations but it’s a matter of us playing our game and I’m sure the 17 that play at the weekend will give it their all. It would really give our Super 8s campaign a kick-start.

“We’re refreshed and raring to go. It was good to get a week off because most of the lads have had to play a lot with everyone having plenty of injuries. The week off will have done us real good.”
