Centurions target Albert Kelly

Leigh Centurions’ hunt for halfbacks continues after Albert Kelly emerged as another player on the club’s hit list.

The Centurions announced the signings of Blake Wallace and Jamie Ellis on Saturday, with both making their way to the club from Super League.

However, their pursuit of playmakers isn’t finished and, with League Express also revealing the Leythers have made an audacious enquiry for Rugby League great Benji Marshall, Hull FC’s Kelly is another star on their radar and talks have taken place.

Kelly revealed earlier this year he would leave the Black and Whites and make a move home, but that hasn’t stopped Leigh from entering the race for his services in 2021.

The 29-year-old has spent six seasons in Super League, first with Hull Kingston Rovers before crossing the city ahead of the 2017 season.

On his arrival at LSV, Ellis said: “When he (John Duffy) started coaching I texted him every time he moved to a new club asking when he was going to sign me and I’ve always wanted the chance to play for him.

“I’m excited to sign for Leigh because we are going to have a really strong squad next season with some exciting new arrivals adding to an established squad.”

Wallace added: “2020 hasn’t been the ideal season for myself and so many others but I’m a pretty positive person. Leigh and Toronto have had plenty of rivalry in the past and the Leigh Sports Village is a great venue where I’m looking forward to playing regularly. It will be nice to have the Leigh fans behind me for a change.”
