Four clubs chase Patton

Four clubs are battling it out for free agent Dec Patton.

The playmaker’s contract with Warrington officially expires today (Monday) and he will not be staying with the club heading into 2021.

League Express understands that four clubs – Salford, Wakefield, Toulouse and York – are all keen on holding talks with the 25-year-old in the coming weeks.

Patton’s career stalled this year as he managed just four appearances for the Wolves, despite the congested season. A scorer in the 2016 Super League Grand Final, and a key player when the Wolves won the Challenge Cup in 2019, the England Knights representative had fallen out of favour under head coach Steve Price.

Talks are set to continue this week with a deal expected before Christmas, though Patton’s destination is currently unclear.

One club believed to have no interest in Patton is Hull Kingston Rovers, despite intense speculation to the contrary and a previous offer that the Robins made to him before Tony Smith took up the coaching reins there.

Patton’s six-year stint with the Wolves saw him make 87 Super League appearances for the club.
