Hunslet Hawks General Manager Martin Flynn has called on supporters to vote on a potentially huge issue: a rebrand of the club’s identity.
The move would see the club simply become Hunslet RLFC, which would mean disposing of their nickname.
Flynn says that after consulting with some of the club’s stakeholders, there is support in ridding the club of their Hawks moniker. He said: “Having spoken to a number of stakeholders there is a growing interest in dropping the name “Hawks”, renaming the club as “HUNSLET R.L.F.C” and re-establishing the clubs core values of: Hard work, Loyalty, Honesty, Trust and Respect.
“I would like to gauge your opinion, as loyal supporters of the club, before deciding on the name as we prepare to continue to develop our great club for 2017 and beyond.
“If the outcome of the initial vote is in favour of a rebrand, then further supporter consultation will take place in terms of the design of the club crest and playing kits for 2017.”
Voting forms will be available on Friday night, and supporters attending the club’s game against Doncaster will have the opportunity to cast their vote – which closes next Friday (12 August) at 5pm.
