Paul Rowley has expressed an interest in taking the Huddersfield Giants job on a short-term basis.
Huddersfield are currently searching for a new head coach following the departure of Paul Anderson, who has been stood down after almost four years in charge.
Rowley has not been in coaching since resigning from his post at Leigh Centurions on the eve of this season, but will take charge of Canadian side Toronto Wolfpack when they enter League One next year.
The 41-year-old insists that he will fulfil his commitment to Toronto, but would be keen to take charge of the Giants on a short-term basis.
“I’d definitely be interested in taking the Huddersfield job,” Rowley told TotalRL.
“I have great respect for Toronto and would not go back on my word with them, however I’d love to help out Huddersfield as they look for the right person to take them forward after this season.
“Huddersfield is a club that I hold very fond memories of and if I can help them I would love to take on that opportunity on a short-term basis as I’m itching to get back into coaching.”
Anderson has left the Giants following a disappointing season, with the club currently 11th in Super League and all but certainties to be in the Qualifiers. He guided them to three consecutive play-off finishes and won the League Leaders’ Shield in his first full season in charge.
Rowley enjoyed great success in his time at Leigh, winning one Grand Final, the Northern Rail Cup and back-to-back League Leaders’ Shields.
Should he take the post, he would be reunited with Ryan Brierley, who joined the Giants from Leigh earlier this season following Rowley’s departure.
