Looking back at the World Cup as a whole, there have been some truly memorable matches.
The Aussies may have given the best performance of the tournament at Old Trafford, but in terms of the quality of the contests I would propose the following ranking.
1. England v New Zealand
2. Scotland v Tonga
3. New Zealand v Samoa
4. USA v Cook Islands
5. England v Australia
6. Fiji v Samoa
7. Scotland v Italy
8. Cook Islands v Tonga
9. Wales v USA
10. Fiji v Ireland
Those games may not have had all the skills that we saw from Australia on Saturday, but they each had some tremendous qualities as well as great crowd participation.
I’ll remember the World Cup for a very long time indeed.
And I’m sure all the readers of League Express will feel the same way.
Congratulations to all the teams, the officials, the broadcasters, the supporters and the volunteers who came together to make this tournament such a resounding success.
